Hey Dad...This One Is For You
Madison Weaver

Dads–they truly are superheroes. No matter what situation I'm in or advice I need, my dad always knows the answer to everything–– literally. Our dads help us out everyday so much that we probably often forget to thank them for the little things. Your dad should receive gratitude if he has ever done these things...

1. Thanks for working so hard to support our family.

You truly have put in so many hours to support our family. You work constantly to make sure I have everything I could ever want in life, and I can never thank you enough for that.

2. Thanks for showing me the true definition of what being a husband means.

The love you have for Mom is incredible. You always go out of your way to tell and show her how much you love her. You set a good example of what all of us have to look forward to in the future. I now know to find someone who looks at me the way you look at Mom.

3. Thanks for finding a solution to all of my car problems...even when I don't give a good explanation of what is wrong.

You've heard me say, "My car..it's like making like this weird noise," too many times.

4. Thanks for supporting me in cheerleading, even though you'd probably rather me be a football player or something.

You never missed a competition even if it was hours away. You sat through the miserable cheer routines just to watch me. You spotted me in the front yard when I wanted to try a new skill and although I wasn't a football player you still always supported me.

5. Thanks for keeping up with what's "cool".

You know text messaging slang and the words to "Fireball", and really every other song 'cool' people listen to so yeah you're pretty cool too.

6. Thanks for always giving me money for the necessities–clothes, shoes, and Panera.

Because going to Panera at least 8 times a week is an essential to living a healthy life.

7. Thanks for saying yes when Mom says no.

I think I may have manipulated you a few times (-: Good thing you always have to love me.

8. Thanks for supporting my goals and dreams.

You have always been there every step of the way to cheer me on, and I'll never overlook your love and support.

So, Dad, here are just a few of the million thank you's I owe you. You're the best; don't ever forget it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
