An Open Letter To Coffee

MVB: Most Valuable Beverage

An Open Letter To Coffee
Thrillist

Dear coffee,

First of all, has anyone even told you how wonderful you are? You brighten the world, and still seem to just keep getting better and better.

You are the reason for my existence and success. If you weren’t in my life, I would probably still be sleeping in bed at my parents’ house and watching cat Vines in bed all day.

Thank you for giving me life in the early mornings, and for making 6:30 a.m. work shifts a bit more bearable. You give me the pep in my step, and return my smile and laugh that were stolen from me by lack of sleep. Thank you for providing me with the strength I need to stay awake during an 8:30 a.m. class, and for making everyone in my class eternally jealous of me, because your aroma is so irresistible. I never would’ve been able to make the Dean’s List without you. You are the reason for getting out of bed each and every morning.

One of my favorite qualities about you is that there are so many ways you can be consumed. What other magical bean can say that it can be roasted, ground up, and transformed into endless beverages? (Latte, macchiato, latte macchiato, cappuccino, americano, frappuccino…the possibilities are endless.) You are enjoyed by all ages and all backgrounds. You can even be put into baked goods that can be enjoyed with a cup of your magical self in liquid form. If that isn’t amazing, I don’t know what is.

Also, you are the real MVP for being a reason to ask someone out on a casual date. One of the best pieces of advice I ever received from a former teacher was, “If you ask someone out on a date, always ask them to get coffee with you. The conversation can last as long as you want it to,” I can’t agree with it more. Asking someone to get coffee is a lot less nerve-wracking than asking them on the stereotypical date of dinner plus movie. Props to you for making that aspect of life much, much easier.

Despite the hole you’ve caused in my wallet, I will never let you go. Thank you for being in my life. Stay delicious, coffee.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
