It’s that time of year again. Oh, haven’t we all missed election season? You cannot get on Facebook anymore without seeing someone pissed off at liberals. They would say something along the lines of, “Democrats are for a socialist state, a welfare state and we must vote conservative!” American politics is very interesting and we should always value our freedom of speech. This time of year we can get all kinds of misconceptions regarding the election based on who we hear it from. No matter where you go, the 2016 Presidential Election is upon us, ladies and gentlemen, so get ready for it and pay attention! Here are some things you need to know about it.
1. Republicans have a variety of candidates.
The GOP (Republican Alias) has loaded their ballots with numerous candidates this year. A total of 17 candidates have announced their bid to run for the nation’s highest office. According to Huffington Post Pollster, Donald Trump is currently leading the field with a total of 28 percent support among GOP voters. Ben Carson is second thus far in the election garnering near 12 percent of the vote. Jeb Bush has rallied close to 8 percent and Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Carly Fiorina are reaching near 6 percent in the polls.
2. Democrats offer five candidates.
The Democrats are actively looking for a progressive nominee that can succeed President Obama. Data constructed by Huffington Post Pollster indicates that Hillary Clinton is currently leading the pack of presidential hopefuls with a total of 47 percent. Bernie Sanders follows in a distant second with 23 percent of the primary. Joe Biden, who has not yet declared a bid for the White House, is rallying near 14 percent of the vote. Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb, and Lincoln Chafee all Democratic candidates gather less than 2 percent of the vote.
3. What should you expect?
Currently, the general election is calling for a Democratic win, but with the latest trend in polls, Donald Trump is looking more and more favorable. In a match-up between Clinton and Trump, relying on information provided by Huffington Post Pollster, Clinton takes the narrow lead with 45 percent of the vote to Trumps’ 44 percent. Despite the latest incident involving her private e-mail server, Clinton remains top in the polls, and the top presidential candidate amongst both parties. Surprisingly, many people in the Republican Party have not taken Trump seriously due to his former reality TV show "The Apprentice". Trump is likely the nominee for the GOP, gathering a vast percentage of voters in the Republican Party.
4. What you can do:
The issues facing this nation are immediate and need solutions. Whether it is immigration, the economy, foreign policy or social rights; we have citizens all across the United States who are currently searching for a candidate that can reflect their viewpoints. Together as a nation, we must become informed voters during this democratic process. It is only Sept. 2015; however, 14 months from now, we will elect a new president, a new commander in chief to lead this great nation. What you can do now is search the candidates, search the issues, and pay attention to the news because you too can make an impact on today’s society.
The 2016 Presidential Election is going to be one for the books. On one side, we have a former reality TV star and business guru leading the republican polls. On the other side, we have a former secretary of state, senator, and first lady gathering wide support amongst Democrats. Who will be our next president? Only you can decide.
