Dear College Student,
College. If I've learned anything in the year and a half I've endured the life of a college kid is, it's NOT what it's portrayed on TV. It's not constant parties and cute boys knocking on your door. It's not extremely understanding professors and Starbucks on campus to make your mornings a little easier (some of us aren't that lucky). It's not dropping your books and the cutest boy picking them up and having a 'moment'. It's not all rainbows and butterflies, it's more like 5 am alarms for morning lifting (if you live the life of a college athlete), rolling out of bed and barely being able to put real pants on. It's your hair being in a knot on the top of your head, and sometimes wondering when you showered last. It's staying up until 2 am, writing a paper or pretending to write the paper when you're actually binge watching New Girl with your roommate. It's planning 5-minute naps in between classes. It's being in bed by 8 o'clock or getting no sleep at all. And while, you have weeks you spend 99% of the time crying, it truly can be the best years of your life. It's the little things that matter in college, and sometimes we just need that extra pat on the back. So from one college kid to another, this is for you!
For getting that essay done on time.
Our parents don't understand how much effort it takes to write that stupid essay, but us other college students, we do. We know you would have rather been watching some Netflix show or having a night out with friends. We know it took everything you had to write that paper, so here's to you!
For making it to class on time.
Sometimes that 8am class seems impossible to make it to. Sometimes your bed seems way comfier than that desk you're about to be sitting in for 2 hours. But you did it, you made it to class, on time I might add. So congratulations, you ignored your bed calling your name and went to sit in that devilish desk, you did it and we're so proud!
You did your hair today, and wore other pants than sweats or leggings!
As a college girl myself, I know how tempting it can be to have an entire wardrobe of leggings, and most of us do! But you, you managed to bypass those pesky pants and put on real ones! On top of that you actually did your hair! This is a big day for you, people are going to ask if you're new here (it's happened to me a couple times). Hold your head high girl, you took the time to look like a dime, be proud!
For picking that salad over a cheese fry run.
As much as I love cheese fries, sometimes it's good to override your stomachs calling and just eat something in your room, or something a little healthier. Congratulations to you for doing just that. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we admire you.
No matter the situation, whether it is just putting on jeans instead of leggings, or making it to class on time, we understand the work that can take. So here's to you college kid, you've made us all proud!
Sincerely,
a broke college girl
