To The Next Chapter

Freshman year, you rocked my world.

To The Next Chapter

It feels like just yesterday that my parents dropped me off and I was begging for them to stay. Now, I'm sitting in the middle of a bare, empty dorm room begging for time to slow down. As freshmen year comes to an end, I have learned so much about myself in just 8 short months. Freshman year brought me a whirlwind of experiences, experiences that will truly last a lifetime.

So here's to you freshman year, you were one great ride.

Thank you for bringing me my best friends.

How did I live 18 years of my life without these people? Thank you for accepting every aspect of me, whether I'm happy and over the top obnoxious to moody and an extra dash of sassy. Thanks for bringing me Starbucks and comforting me when school gets too much. You will never know how much I appreciate your love-driven attitude towards me.

Thank you for making me vulnerable.

So let's be real- being thrown into college is equivalent to a baby bird being pushed out of the nest and maybe, just maybe being able to fly. College made me become vulnerable in ways that I could never imagine. It puts you in situations that are uncomfortable and awkward and sometimes even lonely. Throughout college I learned that with vulnerability, comes the chance to find who you are and grow as a person.

Thank you for memories that will last forever.

The 1 AM food runs and the funny conversations that my friends and I have had because we were half awake, half asleep, and fully delusional. Or even the times where I laid on the floor having a mental breakdown because I want to give up on school. Thank you freshmen year for giving me memories that are from every end of the spectrum.

Thank you giving me a home away from home.

Our quote for the year was "In the journey, we find our home." From the crammed dorm rooms that hold the dressers that are overflowing with my clothes. To the hammocks that hang from the trees in the valley. I have found my home in every part of this campus. This campus has seen every side of me, the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between. In 8 months, I found a place that is my home away from home.

Well this is it-freshmen year has come to an end and it's time to welcome another chapter in our lives that will offer many more learning experiences and memories. Freshman year, you rocked my world.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
