The word "team" by definition, is one word, with one meaning: "a group of players forming one side in a competitive game or sport." But, to some, the word "team" is more than just a word. To some, that one singular noun holds a lifetime of memories.
Teammates are more than what meets the eye. They're the ones who wake up with you for that 6 a.m. workout and the ones who have seen you at your absolute worst but still love you. They are the ones who keep you hanging on even when you want to give up. They are the ones who make all the horrible days worth it.
To me, my teammates are more than just family. From spending countless hours with each other every week to literally not leaving each other's sides on away trips, the memories and the laughs can go on forever. Even on the worst of days, when I hate them, I still can't help but to love them and that is truly a blessing. The feeling of always having your own constant support system is a feeling that could never be replaced.
Once I graduated high school, I never thought I would meet another group of people that I would be so close with as I was with my teammates in high school. But, a few weeks into freshman year and that thought quickly disappeared. Teammates exemplify a different kind of friendship. One that only some are lucky to find and only the true are able to keep. Trust is becoming a rare thing to have in some people in this day and age, so, to have nothing but trust in twenty-plus people and for those twenty-plus people to have nothing but trust in you is so special, and that is what makes this friendship so unique. Year in and year out, some teammates come and some teammates go, but they will always be considered family no matter what.
So, to my teammates, thank you for always pushing me to be the best I can be, thank you for never giving up on me, thank you for constantly believing in me even when I don't believe in myself, but best of all, thank you for being my family when I'm miles away from my genetic one. I wouldn't make it through these years if I didn't have you all.
I'll probably never remember the wins, the losses, the horrible training sessions, the amazing road trips. What I will remember is who was standing by my side through it all. My small army, my best friends, my family, my teammates.
