I don’t want to bore you with the clichés of how we all love Dear Old Dad; so, what I want to do instead is share some of the best quotes found all over the interwebs both about father’s and things they’ve all said to us at one time or another. The Old Man is special. To be a great dad is probably one of the most difficult jobs ever because, let’s be real, they get even less of a handbook than moms do. However, they’re all figuring it out and mine does a pretty damn good job. So here’s to you, Apá, for all the times you’ve picked me up and dusted me off.
1. “My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.”
-Jim Valvano
2. “My mum and dad had worked incredibly hard to afford me an education.”
-Benedict Cumberbatch
3. “Live your life. Be happy as you can be, let go of the things that don't matter, and fight.”
-Kiera Cass
4. “A father is a man who expects his son to be as good a man as he meant to be.”
-Frank A. Clark
5. "It was my father who taught me to value myself. He told me that I was uncommonly beautiful and that I was the most precious thing in his life.”
-Dawn French
6. “…my father gave me my dreams. Thanks to him, I could see a future."
-Liza Minnelli
7. “A dad is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fail...”
-Unknown
8. “Dads are amazing. They have a special way of maneuvering through all the roadblocks you might create and refusing to stop until they reach your heart.”
-Susan Gale
9. “Fathers are the ones that pick you up and give you the courage to do stuff you never thought you could.”
-"The Game Plan"
10. “My father used to say that it's never too late to do anything you wanted to do. And he said, 'You never know what you can accomplish until you try.'”
-Michael Jordan
I know I don’t say it enough, but I miss you when I’m away. Thank you for always being the person that will accept my often crude humor and even go along with it. Thanks for showing me that every day is a new one, and with it, another chance.
As I get older and encounter more obstacles in life, I’m realizing more and more how much I need my dad. I can’t thank him enough for constantly supporting me and showing me he loves me when he doesn’t know how to say it. He will forever be the person that I know will understand me best because I’m so much like him. So thank you, Dad.
Lastly, you’re welcome—I know I’ve made your life pretty great. I love you.
