Regardless of where you stand politically, this journey to the presidential election has been one for the history books. There have been so many different candidates with so many radically different opinions. Many argue that we should just start over completely and get all new candidates - though that is not very likely, we can all enjoy a stroll down memory lane looking back at some of the most ridiculous parts of the numerous presidential campaigns so far.
Donald Trump
Trump is by far the most colorful candidate of them all. Known for his tendency to speak his mind regardless of whether he is being "politically correct", Trump has given us some of the most quotable statements and bold style choices of any presidential campaign in history. Here's a look at some of his best moments:
1. The hair.
A true risk taker. Trump is known for his not-so-real hair that complements his not-so-natural orange skin.
2. The facial expressions.
One of the best duck faces I have ever seen. Instagram-worthy, if you ask me. Trump has earned quite the reputation for making faces at his opponents whenever he does not like what they are saying. It is also widely accepted that his eyes (when closed) and mouth look exactly the same.
3. The wisdom.
OK, so this isn't from the election, it's actually from 2012, but I still think it's hilarious. Robert Pattinson can do much better!
Hillary Clinton
People either really hate or really love Hillary. She could be our first woman president, which would be historical and awesome for women! Still, many are concerned with whether or not Clinton would actually be good at the job. Clinton's campaign has been plagued with controversy and drama - here's a brief summary.
1. The email scandal.
In March of last year, a scandal began to unfold that Clinton was using her personal email server for private government business conversations. The whole thing has been a mess and super over-covered by the media.
2. The flip-flopping.
Clinton has changed her mind about countless issues over the years. Amongst other things, many are angered with her recent decision to support gay marriage when years ago she was very much against it.
3. The constant trying to be hip.
I mean, she's really trying. Look at her whip. Look at her nay-nay.
Ted Cruz
Out of all the presidential hopefuls, I think the Internet had the most fun with Ted Cruz. Though he's out of the race, his legacy will live on forever through internet memes and conspiracy theories:
1. The Zodiac killer.
This ridiculous and unrealistic theory took over the Internet as people came to the conclusion that Ted Cruz must be the Zodiac killer.
2. Kevin from "The Office".
The identity crisis continues. Those who were not set on believing Cruz was the Zodiac killer decided that he had to be Kevin from "The Office". I mean, they do look a little similar.
3. Just so awkward.
Cruz is a goofy dude doing goofy things. Goofy things that will forever play on loop in the heart and the soul of the Internet. You twirl for freedom, Ted.
Bernie Sanders
Ah, last but not least is Bernie Sanders. The voice of the millennials, so it would seem. Bernie has been the underdog from day one, a cute little man many did not think could ever beat out Clinton, but he hasn't given up yet. Still, his campaign has managed to raise concerns from those both in and outside of his party. Here are some highlights.
1. "The top one percent!"
Bernie is very concerned with the Top One Percent of the American citizens. Even if you don't follow him you know that he believes the wealthy are far too wealthy in America because he is always yelling about it.
2. He's so old.
Bernie Sanders is 74 years old. Many people worry that if he is elected, he won't be alive to govern the country for the next four (or eight) years.
3. A socialist?
Another stab people take at Bernie is confronting that fact that many of his ideas are highly socialist in theory. People worry whether or not socialism is really what America needs or if the things Sanders wants for America are actually attainable. Should college really be free? Should minimum wage be $15? You get to decide.
Bottom line:
Maybe you love one of these candidates dearly, maybe you hate them all, but either way this election is a very important one. While no candidate is perfect, everyone has the right to get out there and vote for the lesser of the two evils when November rolls around. Hope to see you at the polls!
