Does your birthday fall on a highly romanticized day? Well, mine does and to give you a look at what always seems to pop up, here are just a few common elements to a birthday on Valentine’s Day.

1. There is really no celebrating Valentine’s Day in your life.

Every year when February comes around and everyone's gearing up for Valentine’s Day we are waiting around for the anniversary of our birth. When you think about your birthday and the Hallmark version of Valentine’s Day our birthday tends to trump it.

No matter how many boyfriends you have or how many carnations you get, it’s all about our birthday. That may sound a little selfish but birthdays are important in life and we should focus on that rather than chocolate and flowers.

2. Your parents are off the hook.

This is one that we don’t realize until we are much older but our parents usually don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, they celebrate our birthday. This doesn’t mean they won’t celebrate it later in life but I have had more than 20 birthdays and my parents pretty much refuse to celebrate anything but my birthday. My parents always say to this comment that they used to celebrate Valentine’s Day but I happened to come along a take the day all to myself.

3. Most people say “I’m sorry” rather than “Happy Birthday”.

This one is a little heartbreaking, no pun intended, but countless times the people around me say “I hate Valentine’s Day” to which I respond “It’s my birthday.” This is where people always say “I’m sorry.” Now this couldn’t possibly be because it is a day to remind many people of single-hood, well I guess that could be the case.

This birthday also tends to be one people remember to which they still say “I’m sorry.” I just don’t understand what is so bad about having your birthday a day in which couples show excessive PDA, there are so many carnation sales, and people forget the St. in front of St. Valentine’s Day. Don’t get me wrong I love my birthday but it tends to be overshadowed with declarations of love.

4. Your entire life is surrounded by hearts and the colors red and pink.

Now here is a fun one that applies to almost every aspect of life. Valentine’s babies are surrounded by heart decorations, candies, be mine bears, heart chocolates, etc. The only reason my family decorated for Valentine’s Day was because my birthday fell on it. I don’t think there is a coincidence that my favorite color is red.

As well as, my mom having to always purchase heart-themed clothes and gifts for me. My life is quite literally surrounded by hearts so I have grown accustomed to it after many years.

5. There is bound to be a romance movie coming out around our birthday, usually being a Nicholas Sparks novel.

This one is my personal favorite given that pretty much every year there has been a romantic themed movie (with many being Nicholas Sparks adaptations) come out to theaters around my birthday. The film industry always jumps on Valentine’s Day by pulling at viewer’s heartstrings with terminal illness, break ups, betrayal, best friends who are secret admirers, tragedy, kissing in the rain, love, love, and more love.

There are always rare and fun appearances such as the next Die Hard installment back in February 2013 where there is more death than love but the day usually brings excitement in some form. Being born on Valentine’s Day is both a gift and a curse, there are the romance associations but at the end of the day, it’s still a celebration.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
