One of John Mayer’s most famous songs starts out by saying, “When you’re dreaming with a broken heart, the waking up is the hardest part.” His words are so very true. Let’s be honest, having a shattered heart is one of the most painful experiences a woman can face. You don’t want to wake up, you don’t want to eat, and you don’t want to see anyone. All you just want to do is lay in bed and cry. If you are a girl with a broken heart, you know exactly what this feels like, and sometimes words can’t even describe the pain. Yet, I am here to tell you, that despite the pain, despite the hurt, despite the sorrow, you are going to be okay. You know why I know this? Because I was that girl 3 months ago and this is what I have to say to anyone who has been broken by a boy they loved.
If someone broke your heart, chances are, you are going to start pinning the blame, right away. You are going to lay in bed and think about all the things he did wrong, or all the things that you did wrong. Yet, I encourage you, stop right there. Before you begin to point the finger, whether it be at him or yourself, you need to take a step back and realize that the past is the past. It doesn’t matter whose fault it really is. It is only going to hurt more by thinking about what could have been done.
That being said, get out of bed! Do NOT, lay around and think about him or the hurt. Stay busy, get busy. You are going to get through this. Surround yourself with the people in your life that do cherish and love you. I know, there will be moments when you think about him, when you want to break down in tears because you think no one knows that you’re hurting deep down inside. But, trust me, little by little you will forget the pain and begin to enjoy life again.
I would lastly like to say, that one of the biggest lies you could ever feel with a broken heart, is that you are worthless and unloved. My darling, you are beautiful, you are loved and you are fearfully and wonderfully made. I don’t care what he said or didn’t say to you, you are worth something and you are perfect. The pain that you feel in your heart may feel like it could last forever, but it is only temporary. You see, pain is washed away by love, and I don’t mean worldly love, I mean Godly love. That’s right, the God of the universe loves you, and His love is more powerful than any you could possibly imagine. Do you want to truly know how I got over a broken heart? I gave God my heart, I told Him to take the pain, and I asked Him to show me His true and mighty love. Once you feel God’s love shining down into your life, your broken heart doesn’t hurt so badly and you watch as God pieces together what was once shattered. So what are you waiting for? Give God every little piece of your broken heart today, and watch Him turn your brokenness into love and beauty, once again.
