Now-a-days there are so many different causes to donate to and volunteer with, but there is one that has become closer to my heart in the last year, childhood cancer. There is no easy way to say it, but cancer sucks! It sucks especially when its attacking innocent children.
Last month, my roommate Jessica Scanlon, was chosen to be a campus rep for an amazing organization; Headbands For Hope. The name kind of says it all, but for every headband purchased this wonderful organization donates a headband to a child fighting cancer as well as $1 to a childhood cancer organization. This may not seem like a lot, but have you ever thought about how self-conscious these children may be after going through chemotherapy and losing most of their hair? Picture yourself bald and tell me you wouldn't feel the slightest bit self- conscious.
This organization was founded by a young woman by the name of Jessica Ekstrom. She was given the opportunity to intern at a wish-granting organization. It was there that she realized these young girls loved wearing headbands after losing their hair to chemotherapy. This lead her to found, Headbands of Hope, her junior year of college. I know your probably thinking this is only for young girls, but its not! Headbands of Hope has recently started a line of buffs for the young boys going through the same thing!
Are you interested in helping but know you don't wear headbands that often? No worries! You can donate money! This is such an amazing cause, why wouldn't you want to help out! Check out the link to donate!
OK, OK, back to the reason I am writing this article in the first place. As I mentioned earlier, my roommate has recently become a campus rep for Headbands of Hope. Childhood cancer has always been something that she held close to her heart. Being a part of Delta Delta Delta, she has had the opportunity to give back to St. Jude, but she wanted to do more than that. She wanted to make sure that every child has a chance to be made special and quite frankly I can't blame her.
