Having Patience In An Impatient World

How to trust while you wait.

Having Patience In An Impatient World

Patience is something that I struggle with every single day and I know I'm not the only one. In a world where we expect things to happen exactly when we want them to, having to wait for something is difficult. This could mean waiting for a relationship, a job offer, important news-anything! It's during this waiting period when we begin to doubt our worth and wonder why great things are happening to everyone except you. Hence the "all my friends are getting engaged" feeling.

When I'm feeling particularly impatient, my bible is the first place I turn to. One of my favorite verses is Jeremiah 29:11.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

It's amazing to think that God has a unique plan for each and every one of us. While we only see what's happening in the present, God can see the bigger picture and knows what's best for us. All we have to do is let Him guide us. This is a thought that I have to remind myself of.

Here are some ways to have patience in all of the craziness.

1. Expect your plans to change. Often.

I'm the type of person that always has to have a plan, but sometimes that plan doesn't line up with God's plan for me. You just have to remember that God's plan is so much better than anything you could ever imagine on your own.

2. Trust Him.

Jesus replied, "You do not realize not what I am doing, but later you will understand."

John 13:7.

He knows exactly what He's doing. You just have to trust that He will guide you in the right direction.

3. Don't compare yourself to others.

This one is so important. Yes, all of your friends might be getting engaged while you're still single, but THAT'S OKAY. This is my biggest struggle, but I've had to tell myself that my life isn't going to be the same as theirs. Does that mean that I'm any less worthy of a relationship than they are? No. My story is coming and so is yours.

4. Ask God for patience.

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."

Philippians 4:6.

We have the amazing opportunity to be able to ask God for things. Prayer is powerful and can do some wonderful things. If patience is something you need, ask God for some guidance.

While waiting is something we'll all have to do at some point, these helpful steps will hopefully make the wait a little less unpleasant. Use that time to focus on yourself and what you can do to be the best version of you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
