What is a Little? The time between Bid Day and Initiation is the time for you to find the girl of your dreams. You're matched with about three or four girls usually, and you're expected to find your soulmate, aka your little. This may seem like a lot of pressure, and it is, but once you have your moment, your whole world changes. For my Big, it was my mono-toned sarcasm and sass over pizza at Schlitz and Giggles. These days, I am the light of my Big's life, and her world revolves around me. She does have a boyfriend of two years, but here's why having a Little is better.
1. A little is forced to love you.
At first, the love may seem forced, but then it just comes naturally. How could you not love someone who thinks you're the most perfect person ever? From one Little to another, love your Big. She has loved you so much since the day you met, and she also showered you with gifts during Big-Little week. Gifts! Also, show some love because you don't want to be Big-less.
2. They're your family away from home, literally.
Some of us do not have the leisure of having a quick drive home. There are times when you're on the verge of emotional breakdown, and you just can't go home. Who ya gonna call? Little! It may seem like you're constantly leaning on your Little, but trust me, we crave your attention just as much as you crave ours!
3. It's not weird when you say "I love you" on the first date.
When I say "first date," I mean Bid Day. In all reality, Bid Day is so exciting you even want to tell the bricks that your house is made of that you love them. But your Big, she's been anticipating you. She's been patiently waiting on the street to see your beautiful face running towards the house. So naturally, when the first thing she says is "Oh my gosh, I love you!" you don't think it's weird, you shout that you love her too, because you already do!
4. Littles can sense your emotions much better than boys.
We can even sense your emotions better than you. Littles are the ultimate outsider. We're new, so we probably won't know who you're talking about. We're basing our advice solely off of how you feel. Even when you're not sure how you feel, we can tell. We've been trained by the best in the comforting department, so you can always come to us.
5. Your boyfriend can't struggle through Recruitment Week.
I have not been through recruitment yet, but rumor has it there are lots of hours and tears. Formal recruitment is a time that your boyfriend will never understand. Can you guess who will understand? Your Little. Not only will she understand, but she's right there experiencing all the feels for herself. While you may get some judgmental looks from your boyfriend when you actually bust out in tears, your Little will cry with you. You also get to scope out the next little cutie to be a part of your power fam.
6. Your Little will always tell you the truth.
While your boyfriend tip-toes around his words so he can say what you want to hear, your Little is not about that. We may seem a little brutal, but we just have your full potential in mind. We want you going out as your hottest self and going on dates with the most rad dudes. Naturally if you're outfit isn't flattering, we're going to tell you. Sorry, not sorry.
7. We can help you with clothes and makeup.
There's two options here: borrow my clothes or borrow your boyfriend's clothes. Unless you're going for the Avril Lavigne circa 2002, I would suggest taking the dress I offered you. Also, not to be pessimistic, but I am very doubtful of your boyfriend's ability to do the perfect smokey eye.
If you have a Little, you should thank her. She loves and admires you more than you'll ever know. Boyfriends, they could leave you, but Littles are forever. Literally, you guys went through some crazy ritual during initiation, and you're basically blood sisters. So Big, you're welcome.
