Having A Best Friend At A Different College, As Told by "Frozen"

"Funny how some distance makes everything seem small."

It's senior year. Everyone is applying to different colleges and talking about where they plan on spending the next four years. Everyone except you and your bestie. You both avoid the awkward conversation of where your friendship is headed and instead soak up senior year. Next thing you know you're sitting in your dorm room surrounded by pictures of the two of you and your best friend is hundreds of miles away. If the sisters of Arendalle could tell this story, it would look a lot like this.

The first few weeks apart.

Everything is new and exciting and you can't wait to tell them. Whether it's realizing the cute guy in your math class actually lives in your building or when you've had one too many and need to call her and tell her you love her, your best friend is always there to listen and comfort you.

The first time they post a picture on Instagram of them and all their new friends.

Pretending to be busy on your phone in class when bam! There's some strange girl taking up your half of the best friend picture.

When they fall for a frat guy...

That phone call goes something like this: "Yes, he is cute. Yes, he is charming. No, you probably won't marry the first guy you fall for at your favorite frat house."

When they come to visit for the first time and make themselves at home.

Clothes everywhere, pizza boxes everywhere, not entirely sure where your shoes are. When the bestie comes to town, all bets are off when it comes to keeping your home-away-from-home pristine.

When they introduce you to their new guy best friend and apparently you're the only one that sees crazy sparks.

Girl, stop playing and get with it. The boy is cute and takes you to get food when you're sad? His clothes are definitely made out of boyfriend material.

Looking back on some of your fights from high school.

Those rough days when you could really go for a best friend date and you think back to the dumb times you almost didn't get to keep her as a friend.

Making plans for summer vacation.

It's hard to contain your excitement as summer inches closer and closer everyday. Laying out, shopping, road trips; doing everything and absolutely nothing with your best friend is always fun.

When people ask, "Why do you stay so close to someone you hardly get to see?"

Plain and simple, there are some people you wait your whole life to meet and you don't let distance or time separate you. Some people are worth every ounce of extra energy.

So here's to you best friend. Know that every time you come home I'll be waiting on a lunch date. Thanks for never letting me down even when we are hundreds of miles apart. I love you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
