Recently I had acrylic nails put on for a formal. I was fully aware of the horrible damage I was doing to my nails but I wanted them to look good, and I thought that was the only way. With the acrylic and the added damage I was causing by having to put my hands under the UV light for my gel polish, I was just ruining my nails and hands. I always thought, “Who cares, my nails will grow back.” That is true, but why would I want to cause unnecessary harm to myself? And that smell! Regular nail polish smells so bad, it may even cause headaches and nausea. Plus the UV lights have been linked to cancer. No thanks.
So, I went to my local nail salon and had the acrylics removed. I was then told about SNS Nails (cue singing angels). It is a dipping powder (so no more polish spills) and is the hot new trend in nail salons. This formaldehyde, toluene and DBP free godsend is completely amazing. It is actually healthy for your nails. Who knew that was possible?! It provides your nails with five kinds of vitamins and calcium, which strengthens your nails as you wear it. It makes your nails feel strong without any acrylics or harmful chemicals (that actually make your nails weaker). The powder consists of organically processed chemicals of benzoyl peroxide, titanium dioxide and acrylic ester polymer. It is applied by using a dipping method.
First, a clear base coat is put onto the nail. The nail is then dipped into a colored powder, and then a topcoat is placed on. That’s it. Some salons may dip your nails more than once to ensure color and strength. The entire process is quick, easy, and kind of fun. The product is removed after a 10-minute soak in acetone. So simple! I have had mine on for two weeks now and it still looks like it did leaving the salon. It is still shiny and hasn’t cracked or chipped. It comes in many colors and can even be done in a French manicure style. SNS may be pricier than the average manicure or gel manicure, but I would recommend it and say that it is worth it. Plus, fewer times in the salon will cost less money overall, so think of it as an investment. SNS nails have given me the best manicure I have ever had and I highly recommend this product.
