How To Have The Perfect Spring Break When You're Spring Broke

Not going on a fun spring break trip this year? Not a problem! You don't need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a trip to have fun during spring break. In fact, there are numerous things to do for free, or very little money, either by yourself or with friends. So, grab your PJs and keep reading to have the best (and cheapest) spring break ever!

1. Go for a scenic picnic.

Grab a bite to eat with some friends and go for a picnic with a great view! Whether it overlooks the city or it's in the middle of the woods, there's nothing like enjoying a meal outdoors. (By the way, this is not a KFC ad, I just wanted to share this glorious lunch I had at my local park.)

2. Start and finish a new book.

If you're like me, you probably have an ongoing mental list of books you've always wanted to read but have never actually gotten around to reading. What better time than spring break to mark this off of your to-do list?

3. Visit your local museum.

Many museums are relatively cheap (tickets are about $20) or even free. Plus, you can spend as long as you'd like in the museum, so you get your money's worth! Take this spring break to become more educated, empowered and cultured.

4. Pick up a new hobby.

This spring break, try doing something you've never done before. Have you always wanted to run a 5K? Why not utilize this week without classes to start training? Spring break is a great time to focus your full attention on something new you want to accomplish.

5. Organize your life.

Yeah, I know organizing isn't the most fun thing to do for some people, especially during spring break. However, if you de-clutter, even a little bit, your life will instantly become somewhat less stressful, I promise! There's nothing like a clean room and closet to help you feel better about yourself. Don't forget to donate unwanted clothes to your local homeless shelter!

6. Treat yourself to an at-home spa day.

Spring break is the perfect opportunity to try that nail polish you've never opened or use that facial mask you swore you'd use at least once a week, or perhaps, you now have time to enjoy that beautiful Lush bath bomb you bought awhile ago. Pour yourself a glass of wine while you're at it. Cheers to you!

7. Reconnect with long-distance friends.

Many schools, even in the same state, don't share the same spring break week, so why not take this time to visit a friend at a different university who you haven't seen in a while? Since they won't be on a spring break trip (probably unlike your friends at your own university), you can take a few days to hang out and catch up on each other's lives.

8. Netflix and sleep.

If all else fails and you can't find anything to do, just binge watch your favorite shows on Netflix and catch up on sleep. Spring break is for relaxing, after all, and what's more relaxing than staying in bed all day?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
