HATERS | The Odyssey Online

A “hater” by definition is: a person who greatly dislikes a specified person or thing.

Here's the thing, don't embrace them. What I mean by this, is wearing various kinds of apparel that says “I <3 HATERS,” because you will definitely attract more of them. Don't talk about how many you have, or brag about how you don’t have any at all (which is false). The saying, “If you don’t have haters, you’re doing something wrong,” I might have to argue with. Once one has to start telling themselves that, it's time to take a step back and realize that isn't normal. On the other hand, everyone needs haters, because that's what makes the world go round. Haters can be the ones to make you realize you're an individual. They can be the ones to motivate you to improve yourself. The key is living your life the way you want to live it. Don't abide by the words of some person that is completely irrelevant to your life.

There will always be haters popping up throughout your life, no matter how old you are. Our social lives, relationships with others, and careers are continuously evolving, and so will our haters. The only way to avoid a hater is if you don't do anything with your life at all. Haters can affect your self–esteem in either a positive or negative way. It all depends on your attitude and outlook. One can’t deny that we have all been that hater at one point or another, whether if it was for something reasonable (like that one time where he stole your phone and denied it), or for something irrational (like the sound of someone’s laugh being too annoying). On the other hand, for someone to hate, there doesn’t have to be a reason at all. You're going to run into haters that are going to doubt your true potential. Another person should never make one doubt himself or herself, but it's on you for others to affect you and make you feel unworthy of what you deserve. I mean it’s all just mental, ignore those people.

In this world, there is always an excuse for everything. There is always some sort of justification for why they're “hating”. For example, she can’t just be thin…she has to be on drugs. He can’t be that good at baseball…he must be doing steroids. Or, that test was impossible, how did she do so well… she must have cheated. There is someone always hating on and putting down other’s achievements. It's not going to make the other anymore-successful talking negatively about others for no given reason. For girls…there are always classic haters that aim for the same things. For instance: lets say there is a girl who is center of attention in a social setting… if I had a dollar for every time I heard, “she’s an attention whore,” I could be a millionaire. Another good line is, “she’s not even that pretty,” which realistically she probably is and everyone else thinks the same. But there you are, “hating” for an insignificant reason.

The haters that are actually comical are, cyber haters. With specific haters, I’m 100% positive you would never say that in person, let alone whom you were directing that too. So what I'm saying is, if you're cyber hating…make sure you can stand up for what you’re spitting out. Another kind of hater is passive aggressive. You know, the kind that quite possibly could be your friend, maybe is a little jealous, but would never actually cause a problem with you.

Then, you have your HATERS. The kind where you KNOW they don't like you, or it is mutual. Usually it's due to a history between one another that has been unresolved and has escalated. We cannot forget about the bandwagon haters…debatably the worst of the worst. Whether if it's a celebrity, athlete, or a peer, have your own mind when it comes to whom you are talking about in a negative light and the reason being. If it originally had nothing to do with you, most likely never should.

In the end, it doesn't matter what you do, haters will hate on your character, dreams, physical appearance, work ethic, friends, family, morals, intelligence, etc. but it is up to you to determine how that effects your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
