I Hate Going On Planes Because They Were A Big Part Of My Life As A Kid

I love to travel, but over time I've started to hate plane rides.

Ever since I was a kid, I've been moving around. I was born in Zimbabwe and my parents decided to go to Australia for a residency program when I was around seven years old. This plane ride was my first and my most exciting. This is mainly because I was super nervous but also excited to be "flying" in the sky.

Flash forward to now and I'm living in Tampa, Florida. It took many plane rides to get to where I am in my life right now. Just so you know how many planes I've been on, I decided to count how many plane rides I could remember. I counted approximately 11. I used approximately because I'm going off memory and sometimes I forget the trips that required different stops.

I could imagine you could understand why I would hate planes after going on them so many times. This hatred for planes mainly started after my second trip to Zimbabwe. If you've been to Africa you would know that some destinations require you to go all the way up to England and then back down to your destination.

If you have the luxury to have a straight destination from Washington D.C. I am very jealous of you. For my trips to Africa, it usually involved taking a plane from Dallas because it was the closest airport at the time. This flight went from Dallas all the way to Heathrow Airport.

If you're wondering, that is a very long trip. It was about eight hours. I had only experienced plane rides this long at a very young age and with a lot more energy. At fourteen, I was not in the same state of mind. I didn't like sitting for that long, having to use the bathroom, and I especially hated the airplane food.

After that, I had another eight to ten-hour trip down to Johannesburg, South Africa. This was the worst one of all because it was a super long trip, and there was a ton of turbulence. I felt like I was going to die every five minutes. I also had to worry about getting sleep while cramped in an airplane seat.

Ever since this experience, any time a trip requires an airplane I automatically gag. Hopefully, I learn to like airplanes again over time because I do have the travel bug and I'd imagine it'd be hard to travel without the use of planes what so ever.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
