Yes, I am Christian. Yes, I know Easter is the greatest celebration in the liturgical year for Christians. And that's exactly why I hate Easter. I hate Easter because it's become another 'Hallmark Holiday'. It's not even remotely recognized for it's true significance. I hate Easter because it's not about Jesus' death and resurrection anymore. More than half of America celebrates Easter inaccurately.
Bunnies, Peeps, colored eggs, and a weekend excuse to do nothing but be with family. I've even found myself caught in the distractions that make us forget Easter is even related to religion.
And for those Christians that do know and understand why Easter really exists, that's great. But is Easter the only time you find yourself entering the church with friends and family?
I hate the Easter this world and culture has created. I don't hate Easter as it should be. Because Easter should be a joyful time 2 days after the most sorrowful sacrificial day of the year. Easter should be celebrated with friends and family, gratitude and peace because that's exactly how Easter happened. The Son of God dying for the sake of others - us. And if we can only think to search for eggs after someone died for our eternal salvation, I believe that gives me enough reason to hate Easter as the world celebrates it.
