Harry Potter is a magical series. Such a magical series. The movies, which are based off of books written by J.K Rowling, mean so much to my generation. To me, the books and movies are an escape. When I feel like I need to vanish off of this planet, I can go to my bookshelf and pick up a Harry Potter book. The movies too, can be a way for me to escape the reality of this world. I am a full-time college student plus working 20 hours a week. Sometimes, just sometimes I feel like I need to escape. Lots and lots of people ask me why I love the Harry Potter series as much as I do. Let's think about that. First of all, magic is freaking awesome! Wouldn't you want to be able to wave a wand and say some words and poof, you got what you need.
The spells are pretty cool too. If you want to summon something to you, you say "Accio." So in the case of needing something like, the water bottle that you accidentally left in the kitchen you would say “Accio Water bottle!” and your water bottle would come to you. Then there is my most favorite. The levitation charm. Pointing your wand at an object, swish and flick your wrist while saying “Wingardium Leviosa.” In the wise words of Hermione Granger, “It’s Leviosa not Leviosar.”
The characters and what they represent is amazing as well. But even then, they have the opposite qualities to balance out. Harry Potter is the boy who lived. He has defied all odds and survived it all but he has had unstable guidance. But he still persevered. Ron Weasley grew up with six siblings (brothers Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred and George, plus little sister Ginny.) While he was one of seven children, he grew up with love and compassion and a family who loved him. Hermione was the outcast, the muggle-born, but in that she was also the brightest witch of the age. Neville was cowardly but brave all at once. There are hundreds of amazing characters.
The plot lines are amazing as well. In the first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone we learn Harry and his friends, and their history. In Chamber of Secrets we follow Harry, Ron and Hermione as they figure out who opened the chamber. There are so many amazing plot lines that I could go on for HOURS talking about it. But my favorite, absolute favorite book and movie is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. In that series we meet supposed traitor and a former best friend of Harry’s parents, Lily and James Potter. We learn that Lupin is a wolf, Scabbers the Rat is actually a man and Sirius Black is not only innocent, but Harry’s God-Father. We see the love you can develop for your family with a few short moments, and the love for friends never dies.
The Harry Potter series is one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced. It brings love, laughter, joy, tears, happiness, sadness, good times and good vibes to those who bother to read it or watch it. This is why, to me, a young Harry Potter has a magical story.
