Such Hard Times For The World We Live In

Syrian refugees and what I believe...

Is it just me or is the world becoming more and more messed up by each passing headline? Everyone should be aware that there have been horrible things happening all over the world. If you aren't, please put down the selfie stick and stop being so self-absorbed.

Since the Paris attacks, I hate to say it but the one teachable moment that came out of it is people are now starting to be more informed of what's going on outside our American bubble. Yes, we have our own issues. The biggest one being Donald Trump running for president. (Maybe not the biggest, but I still can't get over it).

It would take more than one article to go over everything, but I do want to bring up one of the things that is on our country's mind and mine: the Syrian refugee crisis. I know for a fact that not everyone will agree with my views, but they need to be said. We all have to be thankful that we live in a country where we have the opportunity to speak (or write) virtually, whatever the hell we want.

So here it goes, I believe we as Americans should help in any way we can to the Syrian refugees. I know the world is a scary place and full of bad people, but it's filled with more good, innocent, and suffering people. There are 12 million Syrians that have fled their home in search of salvation (half of them being children).

Does anyone own a map? Do you know where Syria is? If not, here's a little geography lesson, it's right in between Iraq and Turkey. Most of the Syrians are trying to flee to Europe in hopes of a new home. If you tell me that someone from that far away is trying to come to the U.S., then you can bet your ass we should help them.

Someone arguing that the U.S. is just letting them all pour in is either one of two things: misinformed or ignorant. The process to let in a Syrian refugee in America is named to be one of the hardest processes to get accepted and to go through. America is not naive nor stupid. The government knows what happens if any dangerous individuals come over. We are trying to prevent what happened in Paris.

People are turning a blind eye to the attackers in Paris. They were neither Syrians nor refugees of the sort. Bad people are everywhere. They cannot be blamed on refugees and they can not be blamed on all Muslims.

Muslims everywhere are getting the short end of the stick here. I am friends with a lot of them, some are even my closest friends. You know what I see when I look at them? Caring, smart, well informed, funny, creative- the list goes on and on. If Americans say "don't blame the guns, blame the people.", then what the literal f***k makes it different from "don't blame the religion, blame the bad people."

Muslims don't refer to the terrorists as Muslims, they refer to them as terrorists, plain and simple. Many Islamic countries face terrorist attacks everyday. Labeling all Muslims as terrorists is like labeling the entire Catholic community as child molesters since several leaders have been convicted of such acts. But we don't. Why? Because it's wrong, just as is labeling all Muslims. Different circumstances, same idea.

For all we know, ISIS might already be here. There are already people in the country trying to cause harm. With the Internet being society's largest outlet, it is very easy for ISIS to get in contact with someone else to inflict the terror. That is what is so scary. They don't need to "come" here, they just need to tell whoever is already here when they're want to create an attack.

In Paris, the attacker was someone who already lived there his whole life. Bad people will be bad people no matter who we try to keep out. We still need to take precautions, of course, but it's stupid to think that if we stop letting refugees in, then we will be okay and we can live on in the imaginary and perfect world we "think" exists.

I know this only touches the surface of this issue, but if the world would come together and help each other it would not only better make us better, but also help millions of children that have no part in anything that is happening to them.

That's a perfect world. One where we support each other in tough times, and be an ally to the Syrian refugees while issues are being solved.

If this situation were to ever happen to us (heaven forbid), then we would want the world to come together and show their support, too.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
