I know this is going to sound cliche but my mother is literally my end all be all. She is the reason I am the person I am today, the good parts anyway. I know I can never repay her for all of the amazing things she's done for me but I plan to spend a lot of time trying. She is

My shoulder to cry on

While friends come and go, your mother is there for you. She will never judge and will always have the things you need comforting you when the world feels like it's crushing you.

My personal cheerleader

She is my support system, always cheering me on in anything I do even if she doesn't agree. Life is about making mistakes and learning from them and even when I fall down she's cheering me on to get back up and try again.

My personal chef

There is nothing better than coming home to the recipes and meals that connect me to my mother and our heritage. She's always cooking my favorite meals and making sure that I stay on track eating diabetic friendly meals.

Most of all, my best friend

I call my mother probably four times a day because I always have something to tell her. I always what to FaceTime her because no matter how far away I am, my best friend is always with me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
