Ah, Valentine's Day. It is a day for romance, cheesy gifts and of course, love. However, for the large number of people without a significant other, it is yet another reminder that they do not in fact have a significant other. So while couples are having romantic moments with each other, the rest of us tend to spend this day of the year a little differently. Fret not fellow singles. Here are a few suggestions to get through it like any another day.
1. Pig Out.
Valentine's Day can be expensive, especially the dinner side of things. Fifty dollar steak? No thanks. She wants dessert too? Forget that. Be content with the fact that you can easily maintain a budget while still consuming massive amounts of nachos, pizza and God knows what else. The only thing you will be paying for after this dinner is heartburn and Tums. Completely worth it.
2. Remember That Misery Loves Company.
Fortunately for you, you are not alone in terms of being single. Look for friends who are in the same situation and hang out with them. Better yet, why not throw a singles party and still spend time in the presence of others. Who knows, maybe you will even end up finding someone there. However, if you just end up sitting on the couch watching TV with a friend, then a night can be called successful. Just make sure you have the right tools for watching, which leads to the next point.
3. NETFLIX.
Unless you have been living under a rock for some time now then you know of one of the greatest wonders of the 21st century that is Netflix. Netflix will never leave you (unless you forget to pay your membership), won't cheat on you and certainly will not get into an argument with you. Feel free to binge watch all you want, but please, stay away from the romantic comedies etc.
4. Find Out What You Love.
Although Valentine's Day is about spending time with that special someone, I feel as if it is also a time for remembering what you love in life. Tell your parents you love them. Take up that hobby you used to spend so much time on. Take a step back and look at what you love about yourself. All of these things are perfect reminders that love comes in many different ways.
5. Realize That It Is Only One Day.
Just like any holiday, Valentine's Day can often be overwhelming and shoved in our faces. But really, when it comes down to it, it is really just any other day. Quite frankly, this day can be more stressful for couples than singles. Be sure to follow the mentioned tips and you will find this day to be quite enjoyable and surprisingly fast. Who knows? Maybe next year will be different?
