We've all been there. You get to the gym, but for some reason you don't have the motivation or energy to push yourself to really workout. However, there is a way out of this rut. I'll let you in on a little secret –– Hamilton the musical is the best pump up songs. Not only are many of the songs set to a powerful beat, but they are also so intricate that many times I find myself listening so hard to the words that I forget that my body is physically exhausting. Here are my top 10 pump-up song choices for those who need an extra kick in the gym.
1. "Aaron Burr, Sir"
The beat slowly progresses in this number so I would definitely suggest this as a starting point. It's empowering and gives you insight into the supporting characters which draws your attention away from your feet on the treadmill.
2. "My Shot"
First off, "I think your pants look hot." Second, this song is all upbeat and means business. If you're going on a run and it's not on your playlist you're doing life wrong.
3. "Right Hand Man"
There's motivation and then theres George Washington telling you to preserver. That's all I'm saying.
4. "Cabinet Battle #1"
"Turn around. Bend over. I'll show you were my shoe fits!"
5. "Satisfied"
Lin Manuel Miranda knows how to write badass power ballads for women and this is one of them.
6. "Ten Duel Commandments"
Just like a duel, this song will get your heart rate up.
7. "Non Stop"
If Hamilton can write non-stop, you can do another rep.
8. "Cabinet Battle #2"
"You must be outta your goddamn mind" if you work out without this song in your life.
9. "Washington on Your Side"
This one is more of a cool down, but when it picks up, you won't be able to stop moving.
10. "Blow us All Away"
You just blew everyone in the gym away with that effortful workout. Also, make sure to skip the next couple of songs if you don't want to start bawling in the gym. Seriously, take it from someone who has made this mistake. "Stay Alive Reprise" and "Quiet Uptown" will break your heart.
These are just some examples of the incredible genius that is "Hamilton." Lin Manuel Miranda, we are not worthy.
