Spooky Times and Memories

Halloween Throughout the Years

Halloween is one of those holidays that you don’t get off for school or work but is a very social holiday just for that reason. The meaning of Halloween changes as you grow up and here I am going to discuss how.

1. The best years

As a kid you have it the best. You can go to school and get candy there from your teachers then you go home and trick or treat with your friends with your parents around all the neighborhoods with the best candy for hours. You have your mom or dad carry the trash bag full of candy when it gets too heavy for you and if it’s too cold they can drive you in the car.

2. The relaxing years

These are the years when you start to think you are too cool for Halloween and to be a kid so you don’t trick or treat. Instead you pass out the candy and enjoy a Halloween themed movie or two in between doorbell rings.

3. The years that you can’t celebrate

These are the years that you have a test, game , or are travelling and you can’t do anything festive so they end up being the forgotten years for Halloween.

4. The college years

Halloween is back to being cool. You spend time figuring out what costume you are going to wear and what to be and where to go.

5. The group costume year

This is the year that the costume requires a lot more planning than usual because you have to coordinate with your group to figure out how to make it look as cool as possible.

6. The couples costume year

This one is pretty much the same deal so the group costume except it is with your significant other making it stands out just as much in your mind.

7. The years you celebrate at work

It’s fun to see your coworkers in a playful light compared to the serious vibes they usually give off so seeing people in costume for the party is a lot of fun.

8. The decorate the house no costume year

You decorate your house all things Halloween but you forget to get yourself a costume so your house outshines you this year.

9. The punny costume year

This is the year that you decide to do a pun as your costume. You think it is very clever but most people do not understand it.

10. The best years again

Whether it be your kids or your sister’s or friend’s kids you get to go back to trick or treating and you realize just how much you have missed doing it.

All in all, Halloween is a fun holiday for all ages where memories are made.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
