When you ask students in Pullman what Halloween means to them, the response you will get almost every time is Halloweek! Yep, an entire week dedicated to dressing up in different costumes and hitting the party scene of Greek Row every night, until the early hours of the morning.
If you aren't one to party every night of the week or you just want to find different ways to occupy your time prior to going out, the Palouse offers some of the best Halloween activities.
Scarywood
Although it is about a two hour commute from
Pullman, there is no better way to celebrate Halloween than by making the trip to
the awesome theme park. Haunted houses, rides that go backward, and people dressed up as
zombies and scarecrows really get everyone into the spirit!
Pumpkin Patch
If haunted houses and being scared isn’t
really your thing, you can always unleash your inner kid and take a trip
to the pumpkin patch. Only a short car ride from Pullman at Red Barn Farms,
there is not only a pumpkin patch, but also a corn maze on top. You can get a day's worth of fun all in one place.
Haunted Palouse
About 20 miles from Pullman, this event
offers two haunted houses and a haunted hay ride, so be prepared to be scared. Although
there is an entry fee of $15, the event will not disappoint. There are various dates, including Halloween, where the city turns into the Haunted
Palouse.
All of these things do cost a little money, so keep that in mind beforehand. If you are unable to find a ride or don’t feel like spending money but still want to do something fun for Halloween, there are several on-campus activities/events, like different dorms transforming into haunted houses.
No matter how you choose to spend your Halloweek, just know that there are still classes going on, and just because you may choose to go out and have a wild night doesn’t mean that everyone else will.
On that note, it’s the last hardcore time to rage before spring semester syllabus week, so be safe, have fun and Go Cougs!
