Halloween is less than a week away, and with the stress of midterms these past few weeks, making plans may have been the last thing on your mind. Not to worry! There are still a handful of local events for CSULB students 18-plus to attend this Thursday, Friday, AND Saturday.
Most of us have succeeded in avoiding Friday classes in college, but if you’re a freshman, and unaware of the whole “Thursday is Friday” concept…Oh, you poor unfortunate soul. At least now you know better. Alas, there’s always next year.
Or here’s a thought: how about getting your assignments done early for a change and heading to Party in the Pumpkin, hosted by none other than the gentlemen of Theta Chi Fraternity?
THURSDAY is all about Theta, and these guys are no rookies when it comes to throwing parties. This event is open to both Greeks and Non-Greeks alike, and is one I’ve been attending since my freshman year, even before I was a member of the Greek system at CSULB. Plenty of people that are not in the Greek system have attended, and continue to attend PIP for a night to remember, so don’t let such a factor discourage you from letting loose and meeting new people.
Put on your best costumes and get your rage faces ready. DJs will be spinning from a wide range of your favorite beats in one big ballroom, pimped with flashy strobe lights that are sure to make you want to get your freak on. For more info and a short clip of last year's celebration, be sure to check out the Facebook event page. PIP will be held at the Seaport Marina Hotel just off PCH, and tickets are still on sale, so get yours ASAP!
FRIDAY evening to kick off your weekend? Join Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity for a wild night at the Phi Tau house on 745 Elm Avenue. This event is FREE, and open to everyone. When it comes to Halloween, Phi Tau’s don’t mess around. Every year, these guys outdo themselves with eerie lighting, smog machines, and creepy decorations galore.
Others will agree with me when I say that these gentlemen host insane parties, and are not to mention some of the most welcoming and genuine guys on campus. So grab your friends to go make more friends together, and rock your body to some funky tunes. Catch the Long Beach transit or Uber it from the dorms, and let “A Nightmare on Elm” amplify your Halloween spirits and leave you feeling nothing but good vibes.
SATURDAY, October 31, will be a Halloween to remember, as Take 2 Entertainment hosts their last Boatylicious Concert Cruise event of the year. I sincerely hope you haven’t exhausted all your energy just yet, because this is one boat you do not want to miss.
The Catalina Express is a triple-decker vessel with ample dancing space, as well as two DJ setups, one on the lower level, indoor dance floor, the other outdoor, on the main deck. This boat is also equipped with a full bar on the first level, and another smaller one upstairs.
Since attending my first event of theirs back in May, I’ve become an avid “Boaty” enthusiast, encouraging every one of my friends to go. And after Take 2 Ent.'s most recent "IndepenDANCE Day Boaty" event, not a single one regretted the decision. Once again, there will be a significant number of CSULB students and Long Beach locals in attendance.
Boatylicious will set sail at around 5pm so its patrons can catch the best sunset possible, and spend the evening cruising through the waters of Long Beach harbor. Feel the ocean breeze as it sends chills down your spine, whilst surrendering yourself to the fresh and lively tropical house and disco beats that will absorb the evening.
Check out these photos and a video from previous “Boaty” events to give you a little taste of what to expect.
Haven’t purchased your ticket yet? You’re in luck. Tickets are still on sale, so don’t be the only one left on the docks!
If these suggestions still don’t sound appealing to you, there’s bound to be a flood of Halloween commotion in both Belmont Shore and Downtown Long Beach.
Quite fitting that Sunday is “Day of the Dead,” because come Sunday morning, alive is the last thing you’ll be. Make sure to have that Advil and tall glass of water ready by your bedside. It’s going to be one hell of a weekend.
After all, you’re only in college once, so have fun, be safe, and live it up.
