Forever all and self-sufficient,
He who spoke into existence
All the earth and all the heavens
Breathed to life a living soul.
He called him Man and formed from him
A most beloved, longed-for friend.
Man and woman, God created them
To bear an image all His own.
But we fell to the Deceiver’s trap
And left the straight and narrow path.
We abandoned God and turned our back,
We sinned and set ourselves apart.
So why did God make us at all?
We bear His image just to fall?
No—we have a greater call:
To love His Love and give our heart.
We haven’t much to offer, but
He found His creatures worth enough
To become a curse for each of us,
Arms spread wide upon a tree.
I’m perplexed at just the thought alone.
The King Himself would leave His throne
To take the form of flesh and bone
And become a sacrifice for me.
He gave His life that we might live,
He died to cleanse, to save, forgive.
He rose to conquer death and sin,
To win for us the victory.
In Him alone we’ll find our rest
And strength in every trying test.
He’s written us into the best,
Most glorious part of history.
So Father, let us sing Your praise!
Upon Your beauty, let us gaze.
For all our life, for all our days,
We long to spread your Holy fame.
Your treasured, burning Kingdom come,
Your flawless, precious will be done,
May mankind know the Savior Son--
Oh Father, hallowed be Thy name.
