Coming from the person who used to avoid working out at all costs, I can easily say that putting the gym into my daily schedule has changed my life for the better.
For a lot of people, it takes a lot of will power to get yourself to the gym. You tell yourself that there is always something better you could be doing with your time. The whole process of getting there, working out and then having to shower just feels as if it is too much time and work. All we really want to do is take a nap.
At the beginning of my freshman year of college, the only reason I began going to the gym was honestly that I was afraid of gaining the "freshman fifteen." Soon, going to the gym became apart of my regular routine during the week. Instead of going back to my dorm and taking a nap, I would go to the gym.
It can be really hard to find the time to go to the gym in college with all the school work and short breaks in between classes. Some semesters are harder than others as well since you have a totally different schedule than the semester before, but working around all the chaos each semester throws at you can benefit you more than you think.
For most people, the main reason that they go to the gym is to get in better shape. For me, I not only go to stay in shape but also to have the time to think for myself.
It's weird to say aloud, but I get excited to go to the gym. I finally get the time to be by myself and don't have to focus on anything else but my workout. With being about halfway through college, I have realized that school basically takes over your life. I hate to admit it, but it's true. Without the gym, I would go insane.
I may have a long list of things to complete by the end of the day, but I cannot finish them without going to the gym first. Throughout the many mental breakdowns that I have faced, the only thing that really calms me down is going for a run. It is the best way to blow off some steam and also some calories. Listening to your favorite music and turning the volume all the way up can get you through anything, trust me.
The next time you want to take a nap but have the time to go to the gym...go to the gym!
Make it a habit and it will be worth it in the long run.
