There's nothing wrong with wanting to enhance your naturally beautiful features with makeup. Often, makeup can be utilized as a creative outlet to express oneself. I personally use makeup as a fun way to spruce up my look from time to time. Learning different ways to do your eyeshadow, defining your eyebrows or just sculpting your cheekbones can be a whirlwind of fun for someone, as well as having the ability to boost one’s confidence. However, the use of makeup should not be the determining factor of your worth, nor should the opinions of others deter you from wanting to wear it.
In today’s society, many women are told, primarily by men, that they would “look better without makeup,” or “guys don’t like girls who wear a lot of makeup.” Now, a statement such as the first one is not necessarily a bad thing and may be viewed as a compliment sometimes, but is a comment that most women who love makeup don’t want to receive. In contrast to the first comment, the second is downright ridiculous. For the most part, the intention of makeup isn’t for the sake and satisfaction of men. Women wear makeup for their own fulfillment with it’s capability to allow us to be happier with what we see in the mirror. I feel no shame when wearing a full, beat, face because of the time and effort I put in creating my look. I wear it to impress my own self with every new look I try, not for the benefit of anyone else. I love the way makeup looks and no man will ever dictate how much or how little I decide to wear.
Telling a woman that you would take her swimming on the first date because she wears a substantial amount of makeup is blatantly disrespectful. It just goes to prove that you are only attracted to her for her outward appearance. Why not take her on a date to get to know her, learn about her passions, hobbies and goals in life as opposed to being caught up in how many layers of foundation she wears. Taking a woman swimming on the first date wouldn’t even be a problem for her if she utilized her handy-dandy setting spray, and if she does, then her makeup is staying in place and is not going anywhere, making you look ridiculous for even suggesting that as a possible date option. Don’t be shallow and only allow her attractiveness to determine her worth. Guys who bash women for wearing makeup clearly don’t deserve to get to know the women beneath it all. If a woman who wears makeup is not your preference, then there is absolutely no reason for even attempting to waste her precious time. The woman who wears a full face of makeup is still the same woman at the end of the day once she takes it off.
Ladies, stop allowing society to make you feel ashamed of wanting to wear makeup. It’s imperative not to depend on makeup as your primary source of confidence, but there’s no shame in allowing it to boost it. You are beautiful with or without it and it’s your choice in how much you choose to wear. No man is worth altering yourself for and with that being said, have the relentless strength to value yourself and not feed into the negative stigma that men and some women place on makeup. Live your life in a way that’s best for your unique, individual self and style. Let makeup express that uniqueness in whichever way you’d like. Be proud to be your beautiful self, because at the end of the day, life is too short not to look and feel how you want.
