Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, also known as Epcot, is three times the size of even the Magic Kingdom. In this third installment, be prepared to travel all around the globe: from Mexico to Japan, and even outer space. Like most Disney parks, Epcot is divided into two major sections. First, you have the World Showcase, and then you have Future World. Each has something distinctly unique to offer, but both have something for everyone to enjoy.
To make this guide of recommendations easier, I’ll be splitting it into two guides, of course being the World Showcase and Future World, respectively. That being said, let’s take a look at the World Showcase!
The World Showcase is broken down into countries from all around the world and has a plethora of things to offer; from "authentic" French crepes to the waterfalls of Canada, be sure to check out these attractions!
1. Maelstrom
Unfortunately, Maelstrom is no longer a ride at the Norway Pavilion. Thankfully, its memory lives on in the spirit of those like me who have experienced it. That, and through the wonders of the internet. I digress. Maelstrom was a fun ride. It took you through the beauty of Norway, telling of the legends and even taking you backwards into splash zones. For a bonus, check out the Kingdom Keepers book series by Ridley Pearson, which feature not only the beloved Maelstrom, but also other rides and areas that I’ve talked about throughout these guides.
2. Gran Fiesta Tours starring the Three Caballeros.
As someone who absolutely loves Spanish culture, this ride can’t be missed. It’s cute, it’s short, and it’s indoors – something you’ll appreciate in the Florida heat. It’s a short-and-sweet boat ride that follows the journey of the Three Caballeros, also known as our friend Donald Duck, Panchito, and Jose. I’d definitely say that this ride can be a bit boring, but kids will love it, and it’s a lifesaver. Additionally, It is located in an awesome Mayan ruin building that boasts a beautiful restaurant right next store.
3. Lotus Blossom Café
Who in their right mind doesn’t love Chinese food? Lotus Blossom Café is located in the China Pavilion of World Showcase and has some of the best Kung Pao Chicken that I’ve ever eaten. And trust me when I say, I’ve tried my fair share of Chinese restaurants. Disney delivers nothing but the best when it comes to their cuisine and this is no exception.
4. O Canada!
O Canada! has one of the most beautiful facades that I’ve ever seen on a Disney attraction. With beautiful lush greenery and a stunning waterfall, it’s hard to ignore this attraction. Essentially, it’s an indoor theater, similar to an IMAX in its scope; however, it boasts a screen that’s 360 degrees all around the inside of the building and it shows all of the beautiful landscape that Canada has to offer.
5. Illuminations: Reflections of Earth
Look, I’m not one for fireworks; sometimes, I pass them up even on the Fourth of July, however, when it comes to Disney’s pyrotechnics, this one can’t be beat. World Showcase surrounds a beautiful lake, and it is over this lake where the show takes place. If you don’t believe its beauty, check it out here:
Epcot’s World Showcase has so much to offer; its cuisine can’t be beat, it’s educational, and it’s little nook-and-cranny shops are full of souvenirs that are actually from around the world. You shouldn’t miss it!
