Since Parks and Recreation has finished, you have most likely finished binge watching House of Cards (I can very uncharacteristically be found not guilty in this category), and you still have a week and a half until you can go home and hang out with your dog take off for the sandy beaches of a warm tropical island, let me give you some new recommendations for shows while you wait it out for Spring Break. Also some recommendations for those who aren't basketball fans, since March is literally the one month dedicated to the sport.
Madam Secretary - Premiered Sunday March 1st on ABC at 8/7cÂ
Even if you're not a super fan of House of Cards nor do you day dream about being Secretary of State (Just me? K.), Madam Secretary is just a darn good show. It's pretty fluffy, talks about modern day situations — the Chinese/Japanese sea conflicts, working with India, dealing with the Middle East, and is way easier to get hooked on than State of Affairs.
Secrets and Lies - Premiered Sunday March 1st on ABC at 9/8c
For some reason, whenever I see the trailers for this, I immediately think of Gone Girl. Basically, it's a remake of an Australian show where a man finds a young boy's body and becomes the prime suspect. He then goes in search of the killer to clear his name. Unoriginal? Slightly, but it's only ten episodes, so I definitely think this could turn out great. If anyone else remembers how great (and downright terrifying) Harper's Island was from CBS, this could definitely go the same way and be a great show from ABC.
CSI: Cyber - Premieres Wednesday March 4th on CBS at 10/9c
As a faithful crime show watcher and wannabe lawyer, I'm definitely excited to see how CSI: Cyber turns out. I will always be a firm believer that CSI: Miami was the best part of the CSI Franchise and there will never be a better one-liner king/crime stopper than Horatio Caine. Nonetheless, I am looking forward to testing this out as CBS breathes a more modern life into the CSI series and also because I love Patricia Arquette.
Dig - Premieres Thursday March 5th on USA at 10/9c
I heard about this in between watching episodes of Empire and I really couldn't find anything more about it online than what I've seen in commercials — a man unearths a thousands year old plot in the making while investigating a murder in Jerusalem. I really love USA's shows like Graceland and Royal Pains so I'm intrigued to see how this turns out.
The Bachelor - Finale Monday March 9th at 8/7c
I've watched a lot of Bachelor/Bachelorette seasons, but this one has really presented its fair share of crazy, which I could write multiple articles about. Chris also could be the subject of multiple articles — he's unsure about nearly everything, sighs a lot, and really has no redeeming qualities nor is that attractive. I might be alone on this, but I really prefer the beginning of the series when there are more girls and more cattiness to the almost anti-climatic end. But I will be intrigued to see who gets the misfortune privilege of marrying Chris and becoming the 416th resident of Arlington, Iowa.
Dancing With The Stars Season 20 - Premieres Monday March 16th at 8/7c
This is a perfect example of how horrible I am with time passing, but I legitimately feel like Season 3 of DWTS was pretty much last week (I was in 6th grade). True life — I was a huge DWTS fan back in the day and even went to see them on tour (be jealous). But as the seasons went on and the celebrities fell from the B-List to the D-List, I lost interest. Perfect example of why? I looked at the star list and knew maybe three people and had to look up the rest. If DWTS is still your thing, go for it and maybe pick up some new moves for your next date party.
Southern Charm Season 2 - Premieres Monday March 16th at 10/9c
I had to save the best for last, right? Y'all. This. Show. It's basically a bad car accident — you want to stop watching and know you're losing brain cells, but Bravo just sucks you in and you're addicted in the first ten minutes. This show literally has it all - copious amounts of day-drinking, planned fake drama, weekend trips to hunting farms, hot men playing polo, pregnancy scares, all while maintaining this air of dignity because you know — it's the South y'all and it's Charleston! The real winner of this show, in my honest opinion, is Patricia Altschul, the mother of cast member Whitney Sudler-Smith. She is an honest to God real life Southern-fried Lucille Bluth.Â
Examples: She says the words 'Ann Taylor' as one might read a clothing label with the words "Walmart" on them. She always has a martini in her hand while on-camera, lives alone in a huge southern plantation and has a personal chef. Did I mention that in one episode she pulled out a pink 38 that she bought to match her pink Birkin? If there is a college where I can major in becoming Patricia Altschul please let me transfer now. If you don't believe me — please go watch these seven clips. I will basically be watching to see her judgments, but the rest of the show is ridiculously entertaining. Side note — Bravo please call me and we can discuss a Southern Charm spin off in New Orleans.
In the meantime, happy watching!
