We are extremely lucky (and sometimes profoundly unlucky) that in this day and age we have so many forms, versions and kinds of technology. It is an ever-evolving field. As young people, we tend to be on the verge of the latest trend. The college kids take their time scrolling through their newsfeeds and appreciate witty captions, whereas the younger generations seem to simply mindlessly scroll through and like anything that pops up. Whether you the former or the latter, we definitely have an edge up on our parental units.
When our parents were in college, you had to go to library to write a paper, you called your parents once a week and there was nothing extremely profound that kept track of your every move. They have a million responsibilities that pull them in a hundred directions, and because of this and perhaps their age, at times they can be technologically inept. Of course we're here to help, but at times it can be frustrating because there isn't a "why" behind everything we do on social media or operating a laptop, we just do it. These exchanges however do provide us with many laughs. These are some of the things I've been uttered by the members of the older generation.
If you unfriend someone can they see that you did that?
How do I post this on the Facebook?
You can block someone's number?
I'm gonna check us in at this farmers market
How do I post a picture of the dog?
Oh, I shouldn't comment on everything you've ever posted?
How do you take a selfie?
Oh no, I'm taking a video
How do I get this off my wall?
What can you hashtag?
Have you gotten into LinkedIn? I can't decide.
Why haven't you accepted my Facebook friend requests?
Play "Candy Crush" with me!
If you unfriend someone, do they get a notification?
What's this selfie stick thing?
Are you sending those naked photos of yourself on Snapchat? I heard people do that on the news.
How do you follow someone?
I got an Instagram! I'm going to follow your friends, OK?
*random person you don't know that, well, posts a picture of you* Don't worry, great aunt Laura will like and comment!
It gets on your nerves, but it's also mildly entertaining. They may never understand front facing cameras, hashtags or GIFs, but there are more important things in life. So sit back and let them feel joyous that they've mastered the art of the email. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
