For Those Who Still Say 'When I Grow Up'

When we are kids we day dream about what we will be when we grow up. If you're anything like me, then you would change your mind just about every day. Even into my senior year of college I still change my mind about what I want to be when I grow up. I'll always want to try new things.

As a child I dreamed wild things for when I grew up. Some of the things I remember wanting to be was a teacher, a veterinarian, a doctor, an astronaut, a NASCAR driver, an actress and well, let your mind wander, because mine always did. Some of the things I dreamed up may not seem like they would be too far-fetched, but for me they are. I have a wild imagination, but I don't have the personality to keep up with it. I think back to the times my imagination would dream amazing things for my future, and then I come back to reality. Now please don't misunderstand me when I say that I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up. I have a plan laid out and an idea of what I want to do when I finally graduate from college, but that doesn't mean that I won't change my mind. Again.

The thing about college is that even though I will have a degree in something does not mean that my interests won't change. As I've mentioned before, I'm a senior in college and I still want to change my mind sometimes. In fact I have changed my mind, four times. And that's just since I started college three years ago. College is supposed to be about figuring out who you are and finally making the decision of what you want to do for the rest of your life. Although, it's not that simple for all of us. Sometimes college just makes us even more lost and confused.

I have so many interests and passions that I would love to combine into one job. Then I would get to do a little bit of everything and actually enjoy going to work every day. It was just recently I discovered yet a new interest, writing. So to make myself clear, it's okay if you don't know what you want to be when you grow up.

In life we will try new things, and even take a liking to some of them. The fact that we have different interests is what makes us unique. We dream for our future because we are passionate about things. The only way you are wrong about your future is if you don't dream at all. So imagine yourself as a NASCAR driver or a famous actress/actor, as long as you are reaching for it. When someone asks you what you want to be when you grow up, just tell them you're working on it, because I'm sure they didn't have it all figured out at first either. When we finally do grow up, who knows the incredible things we will accomplish.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
