Growing up with an older sister can be a love-hate situation. Luckily for me, it has been a (mostly) loving relationship. I have been blessed with an amazing sister and an even more amazing relationship with her. From day one, she has always been there for me even when I may not have realized it. Having my sister in my corner has been by far one of the best things that could have happened to me; and although I may not always show it, I am truly grateful for that. Although we all have different relationships with our siblings, here are some situations I think we can all relate to:

She's older, and the most important.

She was born first so that automatically makes her #1. Before you even had the chance, she won over the hearts of the whole family...and she will never let you forget that.

Her emotions can be confusing.

Emotions are a part of everyday life, but for some reason, you could never quite figure out your sister's emotions. One minute she loves you, the next she is trying to strangle you with a pillow. The reason? The world may never know.

She covers for you, and you do the same for her.

Remember that party you threw when your parents were out of town? That's right, only your sister knows about it. And out of the goodness of her heart, she keeps her lips sealed, but only because you've covered for her before.

Everything is a competition.

Whether it be running the fastest or calling shotgun on the ride to the grocery store, every moment of every day ends up being an Olympic-caliber event.

She is always there to give you a pep-talk.

She will drop everything to talk to you when you've had a terrible day.

When you were younger, you lived in the shadow of your sister.

If I had a dollar for every time I was asked, "Are you _______'s little brother?" I could pay off my college loans. If your sister was any type of sports star or leader in school, or both in my case, you got this question on the daily.

You sometimes have to pretend to like each other at family functions.

Christmas dinner with family. Check. Weddings. Check. Family pictures. Check. No matter how much she pushed your buttons that day, you'd be forced to somehow pretend you loved your sister for those 3-4 painstaking hours.

You have your fair share of inside jokes.

I could probably write a book filled with inside jokes between my sister and I. And just one word is enough to send you into uncontrollable laughter.

She always looks out for you.

You're the baby of the family, and she will do everything in her power to make sure you are safe...even if that means checking in with you every hour when you're out with friends.

She sometimes drives you crazy.

If you've grown up with siblings of any age, this one is pretty self-explanatory. Even if they didn't do anything, just their mere presence was sometimes enough to drive you up a wall.

But you love her anyways.

You look up to your sister, she's taught you lessons you will take with you forever, and you wouldn't be the same person without her. And you love her for that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
