If You Grew Up On The Beach, You Know These 21 Things For SHORE

Toes in the water, ass in the sand, not a worry in the world, a cold beer in my hand, life is good today.

If You Grew Up On The Beach, You Know These 21 Things For SHORE
Heather Porter

Happiness is found when you're down the shore. The beach, the sunsets and sunrises, the bike rides, and the boardwalk all are apart of the place you can finally relax and become your best self. When it is less than 20 degrees outside and the warm beach seems so far away, here is this little reminder that our beach days are closer than you think (and worth the wait!).

Sunrises and sunsets are best seen by the water

Cary Porter

You wake up for work around 7 just to catch a glimpse of the finishing sunrise. When you're down the shore, your body wants to wake up for that sunrise. Walking a few blocks to the beach or lake to see that sunrise is the best start to your day.

You'll make every excuse to go to the shore

Hannah Porter

"I have to fix a window on the shore house. I'm spending the weekend" -my dad

"Crap, I think the grass needs to be cut. I'm going to the shore. Not sure how long it will take me." -my dad

"I think it's going to rain. I need to go down and put the chairs away. See you in a few days." -my dad

"I miss our neighbor." -my dad *doesn't see dad for 3 days, location last found in Jersey*

There's no city lights and the air just feels lighter

Cary Porter

If you live in the city, you know that seeing the stars can be very difficult. Down the shore, you can see every constellation, every small cloud, some shooting stars, and that beautiful moon. Although it is possible to see it in the city, it is so much brighter and beautiful in shore towns.

That smell in air is like no other

Cary Porter

That salty sea air is what every candle should smell like. (Also, one of my favorite places to smell that salty air)

The drive down is still one of your favorite parts

Hannah Porter

For me, we have a two hour drive of the windows down, music blasting, and a ton of laughter. That in itself holds so many memories.

The boardwalk holds so many gems

Hannah Porter

T-shirt shops, homemade jewelry, shore signs, hermit crabs, and fudge are all things to look forward to at the boardwalk. When you were younger, going on the boardwalk rides was the highlight of your trip. (Who am I kidding, I still look forward to going on the ferris wheel and wooden rollercoaster).

Okay but shore town ice cream is somehow better than any ice cream you've ever had

Hannah Porter

Okay the pizza too...

Alright Jersey Shore people: Sam's + Curley's

That is all.

There is no sense of worry

The fireworks during the summer

Hannah Porter

Every Friday in Wildwood, the city sets off fireworks. It feels like 4th of July every Friday down there.

When it is off season and everything is empty and peaceful.

Cary Porter

Sometimes, this is the best time to go down.

Beach hair is the best hair

Heather Porter

That nap and shower after the beach is the best nap you will ever take

Hannah Porter

This is Brody's favorite spot to nap, too.

Bonfires

Hannah Porter

Ever have a bonfire on the beach? It changes your perspectives of bonfires.

Being on the water is addicting.

Hannah Porter

The boat rides, jet skis, even fishing are all extremely addictive.

Those long walks

Hannah Porter

Your dog will also love this. If you don't have a dog, here is a whole post on why you should probably get a dog. (just add this to the many many reasons)

Bike rides don't seem that long, even when you've been out for hours

Cary Porter

Not to mention, EVERYONE is on a bike.

You've dreamt of a beach wedding

There is a ton of marine life to admire

Hannah Porter

We are actually able to save these turtles! They cross the street from the lake across from our house, so we have to take them back so they don't get ran over. They ask us to! How cool is that?

You become closer with the people you are with

Hannah Porter

Those late night conversations about life make you closer to each other than you thought was possible. Laying in bed until the afternoon or getting up early to get a good spot at the beach with someone you love is just unlike any other feeling.

The shore becomes home.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
