My life is going by a lot faster than I feel like it ever has. I am in my last year as a teen and the fact that I'm turning twenty in a few months terrifies me. As I watch my cousins graduate from high school, my brother graduate from college, and my parents celebrate their 30 year anniversary, it got me thinking. When we're young we totally take life for granted, wishing we were older and before you know it you are grown up and life has passed you by. So this is for everyone. Live your and take it all in.
“It’s the oldest story in the world. One day you’re seventeen and planning for someday. And then quietly and without you ever really noticing, someday is today. And that someday is yesterday. And this is your life.” -Nathan Scott, "One Tree Hill"
When you’re young you’re dumb and that’s alright.
Because everyone is young and dumb more than once in their life.
You see its part of human nature, and it’s something we should savor,
Because you don’t stay young forever you know.
In the blink of an eye you’re grown and old.
And when you’re looking back at those wonderful young years,
You’ll have many memories of smiles and laughter and many memories of tears.
You’ll remember your sixth grade best friends and your first day of soccer,
And that first day of high school when you couldn’t open your locker
You’ll remember your favorite teachers and the ones you hated too.
You’ll remember that 2 a.m. trip to McDonald’s that came out of the blue.
You’ll remember your first kiss, maybe even down to the time.
You’ll remember when you had your first glass of wine.
You’ll remember when things in life started to get dark.
You’ll remember the boy who first broke your heart.
Or that girl with the pretty blue eyes,
That you thought you loved but ended up being your demise.
You’ll remember those awful fights with your best friends and parents,
And you’ll never forget those words you said that you resent.
You’ll remember that night you first got drunk,
And when you woke up the next morning with a hangover that sucked.
There’s times you’d get in trouble and times you’d get away with so much shit.
And times where you thought to yourself, “I can’t believe this is it.”
What I say to you now is something so cliché,
But live your young life to the fullest every damn day,
Because before you know it you’re walking down the aisle.
Whether it be graduating from high school, or college, or even your wedding,
You never want to feel that in your life you are settling.
You want to look back at your teens and twenties
And remember those things that made you laugh until you couldn’t breathe because they were so funny.
But you need to remember also the times that weren’t so good.
The times where you broke down and said, “I can’t do this anymore.”
But the little voice of hope pushed through and said you could.
Because through those hardships and regrets when you pushed on,
You were learning and teaching yourself how to be strong.
So be young while you can, fuck up and make mistakes.
Get drunk, kiss boys, ask that girl out because you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
Everything happens for a reason though it may not be evident now.
Every good thing and bad thing that happens shapes you into who you’re meant to be somehow.
See when you’re young everything seems like the end of the world, but it’s not, it’s just the beginning.
So go ahead, have your fun kid,
Even if it does involve some sinning.
