How lucky I am to have met so many who make saying goodbye so hard…
With one week left of college you could say it's difficult not to reflect on your latest year's experiences and the year as a whole, especially when it's your freshmen year that's quickly coming to an end. Since arriving on campus in September, everything has been a new adventure, and this whole different lifestyle will temporarily come to a close. For the most part, the next three months of your life will revert back to how it once was. Everything except for the fact that you now know so many more people and you have a multitude of wonderful memories to go along with them.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my hometown, but there’s something about your new location that you love so much. Maybe it's due to the fact that you took great consideration selecting this to be your new “home away from home” and you couldn't be happier with your choice.
You recall all the great times you had and the late nights spent with your "new" but true friends, well most of the nights anyways....you most likely will not miss all the late nights you stayed up studying for an exam you didn’t end up doing that well on anyways. But more importantly, you also recall all the wonderful people you've met along the way and how much you're going to miss them. Most of them you will see again but there are some you may not. Maybe they're transferring to another school, or maybe they're graduating. Either way, goodbyes are always hard. It is bittersweet feeling so close to people you are now going to be growing apart from. From the beginning you were always aware that this day would come, but at the time you really didn’t care. They are relationships worth having and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Sometimes they end up being short, but they can be sweet and definitely significant at the same time. Even though I'm going to miss them terribly, I wish them all the best as they begin this new chapter in their lives.
So while you are all out there chasing your dreams and making a difference in this great big world of ours just remember how you got there. Remember the people that led you to where you are today. Don't run from your past, cherish it…and try not to forget about me. To conclude, I will share a quote from the author most of us began our education reading his books: "You're off to great places, today is your day. Your mountain is waiting so get on your way." - Dr. Seuss
Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, they simply mean I’ll miss you until we meet again. Good friends never say goodbye; they simply say, "see you soon!"
