I am not sure who first said it, but one quote that really makes you want to start enjoying the life you are already living is, "You think you have forever, but you do not." One day you are eating a snack, watching cartoons without a care in the world -- and the next day you are 18 years old, graduated from high school, starting college, and ending freshman year. Then, before you know it, you will be graduated from college and living your own life in the real world. You will have a full-time career, you will be buying a house and starting a family. Time passes by in a blink of an eye. It's both terrifying and thrilling. When I think back to when I used to say "I wish I was 18 already," I now think I was crazy.
Becoming an adult means having a lot of responsibilities, like having a job, making your own appointments, and getting all your college work done without being reminded by your teachers every day. Just last year in high school, I had to ask permission to use the bathroom. Now I'm expected to choose a career and have my whole life figured out. After high school, you go to college or right into the workforce. It can be pretty scary because those decisions have to be made a year before graduation. You think you have a lot of time, but before you know it, years pass by.
You have to grow up and do things on your own. I still always want to tell my mom to call my dentist because I need an appointment, but now I am 18 and I am expected to do it. It is challenging when you are so used to being home with your parents and they have done pretty much everything for you since you were born.
Some days I would rather be 10 again, but being an adult isn't so bad. Besides the enormous responsibility, adulthood holds the best years of your life. You will be living the life you want to live. I remember when I was growing up I would picture the house I wanted to live in. Now I am not too far off from living on my own. Once I have everything figured out, and as long as it goes as planned, I know I will be happy. It's just crazy to think just what felt like the other day you were just entering high school and now you're already in college.
Time goes by so much faster then you think. You cannot spend your precious years by letting days pass by without making them worthwhile. Everyone has to grow up sometime. Everyone is going to age. I just wish time went slower, or we had more at our disposal. I am excited to be moving on to the next chapters in my life. It's exciting to see what the future holds. Growing up is part of life, but grow up into the person you want to be and enjoy your life because unfortunately, you don't have forever.
