10 Signs You Grew Up In North Carolina

North Carolina offers something for everyone; mountains, beaches, rural areas, cities, you name it! Although, only the couple million people living in North Carolina will understand what it means to grow up here, and why you never want to leave. From Cook Out trays to southern style BBQ, every North Carolinian will understand at least one of these items.

1. "Y'all" is how you address a group of people.

Giphy

...and it's perfectly grammatically correct.

2. Cheerwine is a staple in your fridge.

Giphy

Always has been, always will be.

3. School was cancelled for two weeks due to a sprinkle of snow.

Giphy

Making up the lost days was the biggest pain of them all.

4. UNC blue and Duke blue are two VERY different colors.

Giphy

DON'T mix the two up.

5. You have the entire Cook-Out menu memorized.

Giphy

"Can I get uhhh..."

6. Tea is ALWAYS better sweetened.

Giphy

With extra ice, too.

7. There will always be a, "which BBQ is better?" debate.

Giphy

*cough cough* vinegar based.

8. You brag about all the famous TV shows filmed in North Carolina.

Giphy

"One Tree Hill", "Dawson's Creek", etc...

9. There is a correct way to pronounce Appalachian.

Giphy

You know how it sounds.

10. You get it all: the beach, the mountains, the city, and so much more.

Giphy

...and you wouldn't trade it for the world.

Though there are many more signs you live in North Carolina, these ten shine through them all. Whether you live up in the mountains, or down by the sea, everyone can agree on one thing, North Carolina is, and will always be our home.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
