People Think Girls Only Learn How To Party In A Sorority, But Here’s What I’ve ACTUALLY Gained

I never thought I would gain so much from joining a sorority. However, I have gained an abundant amount of people and learned many things. Here are a few of them.

1. Sisters

Giphy

It may sound cliché, but these girls are my best friends, future bridesmaids, girl gang, and ultimate supporters. They are there through the highs and lows and love me no matter what.

2. Creativity

Giphy

Whether it's crafting for big/little week or date functions, there is always something that's needing a touch of creativity.

3. Experiences

Giphy

There are so many experiences that I have been able to enjoy because of my sorority. I have been able to volunteer, attend sports games, and go on adventures alongside my sisters.

4. Leadership skills

Giphy

I have been able to see what good leadership looks like and how to model myself after that. Although leadership positions aren’t offered from the get go, I have been able to join committees and voice my opinion in a very professional manner.

5. Role Models

Giphy

These girls are some of my biggest role models from the alums pursuing their passions in the real world to girls on campus teaching me what a great sister looks like. I am so grateful to have women who I can look up to in every aspect of life.

6. Networking

Giphy

I learned to network from the very beginning of recruitment. I have continued this to help me connect with alumni chapters and sisters at other universities. This networking has also helped me do exponentially better outside of my sorority and in the real world.

7. Responsibility

Giphy

I have learned how to be more responsible in every area of my life: socially, academically, and personally.

8. Passion for philanthropy

Giphy

Philanthropy is a core value for sorority life and it quickly became a core value in my life. I have gained a passion for helping out my community and using my voice to influence society.

9. Advice

Giphy

Advice, advice, advice. I always have an influx of advice whether it’s for what clothes to wear to which classes to take. It’s great to have other perspectives when things seem overwhelming.

10. A home away from home

Giphy

I have a community of women who support me, love me, and have fun with me. There is a safe, loving environment to pursue what makes us happy while also being able to grow and change.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
