“The Greatest Showman”, starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, and Zendaya was released in December 2017. Since then I have seen it twice and listen to the soundtrack almost every day.
The film tells the story of P.T Barnum, the founder of the circus. While the movie may not be very historically accurate, it still tells a tremendous story of human expression and acceptance. The musical will have you smiling for days. Weeks. Months, however long you keep listening to the soundtrack.
The music was written by the same writers from “La La Land” and it is perfect for every mood.
Are you in a fantastic mood? Turn on “A Million Dreams”.
Having a bad day? Turn on “From Now On”.
Do you want to learn how to do trapeze now? Me too.
Containing the magical, soothing (and sexy) voices of Broadway stars, Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron.
YES, Zac Efron singing for the first time since High School Musical! This is clearly a film from the heavens. His romantic duet with Zendaya, "Rewrite the Stars", will make you forget all about "Breaking Free". Other amazing numbers include "Come Alive" for when you feel like dancing, "From Now On" (my personal favorite) for when you're in need of inspiration and "This is Me" for when you feel awesome.
A film with a deep meaning combined with emotional, feel-good lyrics, what more could you want? Even if musicals aren’t really your thing I highly recommend this movie. It contains an uplifting tone and the hard work of the cast and crew is apparent. The music is performed by professional Broadway stars, if you follow Broadway you may recognize Shuler Hensley and Byron Jennings among others.
It is one of the most visually appealing films I have ever seen (because the effects, not the cast). It will you take on a bit of an emotional roller coaster (family drama, love affair, all that jazz) but you’ll walk out of the theater filled with awe. The soundtrack is so addicting because it keeps you filled with that sensation. A true joy, dreams, hopes, love, happiness - each musical number will give you all of that.
Take my advice, go see the movie if you haven’t yet because you are seriously missing out AND if your day is lame put on “The Greatest Showman” soundtrack.
It’ll get your party poppin’.
