Fairytales are usually some of the first stories and books you grow up hearing and reading, and they still are! A common genre now found in books are revamped fairytales, found mostly in the young adult and fantasy section. These books usually take our favorite fairytales and add a twist to it, like zombies or taking place in modern times. Here are a few revamped fairytales that show readers once upon a time can take place in any kind of story.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Cinder is a novel that takes the story of Cinderella and places it in the future, with evil moon queens, and robots, we are introduced to the most interesting part of the story with our protagonist, Cinder, being a cyborg. This young adult novel is part of a series that takes multiple fairytales into the future and spins them together like Rumpelstiltskin spins straw into gold. For anyone who is a fan of action and science fiction, this novel is for you.

The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

While Greek mythology isn’t technically a fairytale, I did grow up reading them. This novel, The Goddess Test, takes the mythos of Persephone and Hades to a new and modern level. Hades must find his Persephone before he fades into oblivion and chaos ensues, and the Olympians find the perfect Persephone candidate in Kate Winters, who must undergo tests of strength and help Hades. The novel is very fun, and is part of a trilogy, but the best book is by far the first, and is worth reading.

Splintered by A.G. Howard

I guess Alice in Wonderland isn’t really a classic fairytale, but it has been revamped multiple times, and in bigger and better ways each time. In Splintered, Alyssa Gardner, a descendant of the original Alice, is afraid she is going mad like her mother, but soon discovers her ties to Wonderland and must save Wonderland to save her mother and herself. Out of all the Alice in Wonderland storied I have read, this is one of the best, and deserves to be read at least once by everyone. It takes the whimsical looks of Alice in Wonderland and gives it a darker look, making going down the rabbit hole another new adventure.

Ella, the Slayer by A.W. Exley

Who doesn’t love Cinderella? And more importantly who doesn’t love Cinderella killing zombies? As weird as that sounds, the novel is actually loads of fun, and something that is extremely hard to put down once you start reading it. Ella lives in England just after World War I, and with the end of the war comes a strange new virus that brings the dead back to life. The novel follows the typical Disney Cinderella story, but gives a new life to the character by making her a cunning zombie-killing heroine. This novel might be overlooked by many, but undeniably deserves all the praise in the zombie-loving world.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
