The first step to recovery is to admit the problem that is burdening your life.
I picture myself circled up with a group of strangers going around confessing our vices. In proper AA fashion, everyone states their name then addiction, followed by a drawn out and low-pitched “Hiiii (insert name here)” from the crowd. Well, here it goes: my name is Anna and I am a foodie.
That being said, I take pride in being acquainted with some of the best restaurants in Atlanta. I feel as if it is my civic duty to share
my knowledge with you. I have compiled a list of ten places and their top
dishes that would be considered a crime if you didn’t try. And let’s be honest,
my love for food is just one habit I don’t want to shake.
1. Nam Phuong, Buford Highway. Once the weather starts to cool down, you'll be craving a savory soup to warm you up. This place has the best phó, (Vietnamese soup) in town. If you're really hungry, order the salt and pepper squid as an appetizer.
2. Amélie's, Marietta St. This French bakery made its start in Charlotte and has now opened in our backyard! The matcha au lait with an almond tea cake makes for a perfect snack.
3. Arepa Mia, Sweet Auburn Curb Market. This market is a site to see. There are countless restaurants and fresh produce stands scattered about place, but Arepa Mia takes the cake. The pollo la catrina, with a cup of guava juice, can make a grown man cry. Yeah, it's that good.
4. Delia's Chicken Sausage Stand, Moreland Ave. Krispy Kreme donuts act as buns that caress a cheddar covered chicken sausage. I've said enough.
5. Bartaco, Marietta St. Bring a friend and share a tray of tacos and guacamole. The atmosphere will keep you coming back for more.
6. Paris Baguette, Buford Highway. Try to keep from drooling all over the fresh pastries. The almond velvet tea is the way to go.
7. Cafe Mezo, Juniper St. Take a seat outside while the weather is nice, and ask your waiter if there is any kanafeh in the kitchen. This Mediterranean dessert will blow your mind.
8. Sushi House Hayakawa, Buford Highway. You have to make a reservation about a week in advance, but I can't stress enough how worth it this place is. The super crunch salmon roll is divine, but so is the rest of the menu. You can't go wrong with this top of the line sushi house.
9. Star Provisions, Howell Mill Rd. Shrimp po'boy. You can thank me later.
10. El Rey del Taco, Buford Highway. This ain't La Parilla, y'all. This authentic Mexican restaurant will make you rethink all of your previous Tex-Mex decisions. Be adventurous and try the cow tongue on a homemade tortilla.
Put on some elastic pants and start eating!
Godspeed,
Anna
