It’s only been a week since Donald Trump has been sworn in as president of the United States, but already he is making huge (using his favorite word) and rapid changes. One of his first actions as president has been to pass a series of executive orders, one of them being to stop funding for women in other countries to have abortions. Now, literally a couple days ago, he has signed an order that will ban Muslims from certain countries from entering the United States based on a provision of “Executive Order: Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements,” that says it will prevent terrorists’ “unlawful entr[y] into the United States.” This provision is ambiguous considering there isn’t a clear definition of what constitutes a terrorist. Even individuals that have a green card, they will have to go through an extra hassle, you know, more than the usual. A lot of people aren’t able to go home, visit loved ones or anything else if it ever has to do with being on American soil. For Muslims from the seven banned countries, they cannot enter the country for the next 90 days, and for refugees they cannot enter for 120 days. That means for the Syrians who are still going through a human rights crisis, they won’t have too many options for asylum. Especially considering that a lot of countries in Europe have taken in refugees, and some politicians within those countries are against taking in more refugees. The kicker is that this ban does not pertain to Egypt, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia; all countries that have, as has been reported, places that Trump has done or wishes to do business with.

Already, the Trump Administration has shown that their interests are the only ones that matter. Business interests are priority in their foreign policy. I know that a lot of American foreign policy has been driven by economic gain, which is no secret. But, considering that we know from Trump’s plans to have his children control his blind trusts, it’s no surprise this executive order was business-related. My point being that it was blatant and obvious. I suppose the administration will come up with some alternative fact to explain why it wasn’t business-related. If this is only the first week, I am afraid for the remainder of the four years. They did not waste any time in showing their hand. I guess this is their way of showing the world that America is changing from one of its core values which the Statue of Liberty depicts, “Give me your tired, your poor and your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” It’s hard for America to live up to those standards with this president. All we can do is wait and see what this president will do next and fight him tooth and nail for every action that is not with all Americans’ best interests in mind. So, it looks like we’re in for the fight of our lives.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
