If I could tell you one thing that you could trust the media to always be truthful about, it would be nothing. Videos of politicians produced by the media are edited, cut, copied and pasted until they are unrecognizable compared to the original video, and we are so extremely influenced by anything the media produces that it is ridiculous. The people of this country don't think or speak for themselves anymore. This is why seeing Donald Trump campaign and speak to the public in real life was the most important thing I've ever done during this campaign season leading up to the election. It was so surreal to see Trump, unedited and untouched, speak to the thousands of people that showed up to watch him speak on Tuesday. I just want everyone to be able to hear the side of Trump that isn't being edited by the media.
Of course, this campaign day did not go without protest. A small group of people held signs, used megaphones and argued with Trump supporters for hours on end. The man in front of me plugged his ears as we slowly passed them so as not to hear their slander and to prevent himself from becoming angry. These supporters held signs that read "Honk if you're a racist. Or if you support one," "Make America Hate Again" and "Grab her by the p***y". It was kind of like a punch to the throat to be called a racist or a rapist by fellow Americans just because I have a different opinion than they do. I also question the woman holding the "Grab her by the p***y" sign. How are you any better than Trump for saying those things when you, a female, hold a sign that says the exact same thing? Tell me, Trump protesters, how do you see yourself as better than Trump when you speak and throw names in the same way that he does?
That's right. I'm willing to admit that Trump may be a bit of an asshole or even the whole thing, but Trump defends his bad appearance by saying that he has a "winning mentality" and that "We [him and his supporters] have a winning mentality." This "winning mentality" is perfectly okay with me because I have the exact same mentality. I'm competitive, hard working, and will scratch and claw to get what I want, and that is what Trump wants to do for every American out there. Trump says that if he wins, "we're going to have a real government of, by and for the people", as he said at the end of his speech. Notice that he doesn't say "you" as in us, the voters, but he says "we" because he doesn't think that he is above us just because he is running for president; he wants a better government just like any other American does. As Trump said Tuesday, "history is watching us now waiting to see if we will rise to the moment."
Most politicians, or people in general, win over crowds by saying inspirational things, and sometimes just what the population wants to hear without ever having to follow through on it. Trump does that too, but he points to politicians in the past who have made empty promises to Americans for years. Most prominently he points to Hillary who has been in politics for 30 years making empty promises to help inner city homes, jobs, and children and hasn't really done much of anything to help them. During his speech, Trump said, "To those suffering, I say,' what do you have to lose?'" We've already been fed years and years of lies and empty promises, what do we have to lose by taking another chance and voting for someone who hasn't promised us everything and done nothing for the last 30 years? What do we have to lose by voting for Trump? Donald Trump asks his followers to "imagine what our nation could accomplish if we work together as one people, under one God, saluting the same flag."
To address Trump's immigration policies: I don't think the wall will ever happen in a million years. Hillary wants open borders, AKA "unlimited immigration." As a nation with 47 million people living in poverty and 45 million people surviving on food stamps, I don't think that unregulated immigration is something that our nation can afford. Our nation already allows over 2 million legal immigrants every year. This does not include population growth according to death and birth rates, or even illegal immigrants that enter our country. I cannot stress this enough. When Trump says that illegal immigrants are "stealing our jobs" I don't believe that he means what most people think he means, but I don't want to put words into his mouth either. What I mean is, when we allow an unsustainable number of people into our country and then add in all of the ones that are born and graduating college every day, we are losing jobs. America cannot create jobs fast enough to sustain just the 2 million immigrants that enter our country each year.
Trump says that if he wins that, "We're going to have a new government that serves the people; it hasn't done that in a long time." Furthermore, in reference to people in the government who are fundraising when they should be working and in reference to the government in general, Trump says, "when you're working for the taxpayer, you should be doing just that [working]".
I agree, Mr. Trump, I agree.
