To my graduating best friend:
First off, I have to start out by saying I love you and I can’t imagine this school, our school, without you. I came in freshmen year knowing absolutely no one and these three amazing upperclassmen basically adopted me. You and I being the youngest, we’ve had the most time together, sitting behind as our older friends turned 21, started going out, went on to get internships and eventually ‘real person’ jobs. Our best friends are ‘adulting’ and they’re killing it; how crazy is that?
How much crazier is it that you’re about to join them? I can’t believe you’re all about to be gone from this place we once all called home, it’s crazy and sad but I couldn’t be more proud of you. I know you don’t hear that enough and I know just how hard you are on yourself with school. I’ve been there for the 2 a.m. study sessions and the post-test tears. I’ve seen you run yourself into the ground for a lab final and I’ve edited your papers over and over as I tried to help you strive for that perfect grade.

You try so hard, you’ve wanted this for so long and I am so proud that my best friend is achieving her dream of graduating pre-med. That’s not an easy task by any means and you’ve managed to do it as a collegiate athlete and while making some amazing connections and friends that will last a lifetime, along the way. That’s amazing. You. Are. Amazing.

And don’t you dare let anyone tell you otherwise. You deserve the absolute best and if you ever settle, I swear, I will take a plane, train, car, bus; I don’t care how far, just to set you straight. You need to start giving yourself more credit and seeing what your best friends see because we all think the world of you and honestly believe you are capable of anything.

As we go forward, whether our paths keep us close or far, I hope you know that our little group will forever and always believe in you and that we will always be here for you. As you go on to med school and as we all spread far and wide, going our separate ways, we are all just one facetime call away. I will always be here for you; for everything and anything, from dumb grades to dumber boys and beyond. Just as we always have been.

The memories we’ve made here are some of our best here at college and we shall continue to make them long after graduation. The two of us becoming best friends will forever be one of my most cherished memories here at school. From mini-road trips, to going to parties in our sweatpants, to crazy last-minute business dinners, to studying for hours on end and taking the most adventurous study breaks; we’ve had the best of times together and I’m so sad for you to leave.

The moment you walk across that stage I will be, and already am, so incredibly proud of you; but it’s a bittersweet moment and you’ve made it this way by being one of the best friends a girl could ask for (and yes, I know that’s cheesy, but sometimes cheesy is just absolutely right). So thank you for being you and for being one of my best friends. I’ll miss you but oh my goodness, congratulations! You’ve done it. And I couldn’t be prouder.
Love always,
The youngest best friend.
