It's the most wonderful time of the year. No, no not Christmas, but the time when finals are over and you can finally breathe again! Although you're finally stress free, things become not so wonderful when you check your final grades...
From the time we were little we've been given grades for every class we've ever taken. It began with S, P, and U, and then progressed to A, B, C, D, or F. Why should something as simple as a letter make you feel smart, or even dumb? Throughout your years in school, especially in college, there will be classes where no matter how many hours you spend going over the notes or how many tutoring sessions you go to, the hard work just doesn't seem to pay off. Just know those grades do not define you. It does not prove your intelligence in any way, shape, or form.
If you went to a high-school like mine where you rarely had to study to get good grades, then you understand the struggle once you got to college. You went from barely trying in any classes to realizing you don't even have the slightest idea of how to study. You went from straight A's to wondering if you're even going to pass a class. Talk about one of the worst feelings in the world.
It took me some time to realize that I wasn't the only one in that boat. Not everyone can be good test takers, or not everyone is able to understand material the same. Sometimes things happen in your personal life that distract you from school. Whatever the reason may be just know that it happens to almost everyone at one point. Just because you didn't get a 92% on the "easiest exam" according to Rebecca doesn't mean anything. It doesn't mean that Rebecca studied any more or less than you did. Don't let your grades make you think more or less of yourself.
Sure, good grades may give you better opportunities, but now-a-days it's also all about who you know that can help you get to where you want to be. Steve Jobs, a name almost everyone knows, didn't even graduate college and look at how successful he was. So don't think because you got a C or D in a class where everyone claimed it was an easy A means you won't be successful in life.
Praise yourself for good grades, but never get discouraged because of bad grades. One way or another, everything will work out in the end if you stay motivated.
