Friday and Saturday night movie theaters are typically full of high school and college students, groups of friends, or even couples prepared to enjoy a film that they've been waiting for all year to come out, or at least a few months. Each year, there are tons of movie releases -- some expected and others rather unexpected but, all in all, serving as exciting expectations for those movie lovers across America. Thankfully, 2016 is looking up to be a very popular year with a variety of showings for almost everyone, and I've came up with a list of my personal recommendations!
1. "Finding Dory" / "Finding Nemo 2" (June 17)
Whether you're a '90s or 2000s baby, this movie is perfect for almost all ages! Nearly 10 years later, this sequel to the original "Finding Nemo" serves as the perfect choice for those nearly 20-year-olds who have been awaiting a second showing to their childhood favorite to come out.
2. "The 5th Wave" (Jan. 22)
Based on the novels by Richard Yancey, these sci-fi novels brought to film are sure to be a thriller for young adults all over -- especially those with an interest in unexpected turn of events. From alien invasions to the Stone Age, this movie is expected to be a top hit in the box offices, in less than a month, too!
3. "Ride Along 2" (Jan. 15)
The brothers-in-law are back and ready to take on Miami! Starring two hilarious cast members, Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, this selection is a shoe-in for those who prefer comedies in theaters! "Ride Along 2" follows 2014's "Ride Along," which served as the year's best comedy!
4. "London Has Fallen" (March 4)
If you enjoy crime, drama, and action thrillers, then this movie is perfect for the wild side in you! "London Has Fallen" is a part of the "Olympus Has Fallen" series and is sure to deliver non-stop suspense in March of 2016 starring Gerald Butler as a U.S. Secret Service agent, "Mike Banning," who springs into action to save London during a terrorist attack.
5. "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (March 25)
This adventure movie doesn't need much description -- the title gives it away. Don't miss out on your favorite superheroes and crime fighters as they face off in this 2016 action movie.
6. "Before I Wake" (April 8)
Watching any movie this year, you've probably become aware of this movie from the previews. A horror-suspense pick of mine, this movie is most certainly worth the watch, with a creative plot twist on the typical scary movies you see today. After a couple adopts a young boy, they realize that he is afraid to fall asleep --because of what he sees when he does. The family must embark on a mission to come to the realization of why his dreams are as horrifying as they are to him.
7. "How To Be Single" (Feb. 12)
Of course, a romance comedy has to come out at least once a year and what better time than near Valentine's Day! It stars Rebel Wilson, so be prepared for a movie full of laughter (and love) when a New York woman finds herself falling in love while teaching "how to be single."
8. "God's Not Dead 2" (April 1)
This sequel is sure to be a great family movie, for those who may or may not be interested in movies with religious preferences. Starring Melissa Joan Hart, this drama is subjected to court when answering a question about Jesus in the classroom; she faces a case that could cost her career and love for God.
9. "X-Men Apocalypse" (May 27)
Expected to be viewed in theaters as both 2-D and 3-D, "X-Men," starring actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Olivia Munn, is a great fantasy movie for those who have interest in the previous "X-Men" action movies. A team of X-Men must group together to fight off their greatest nemesis, the Apocalypse.
10. "Dirty Grandpa" (Jan. 22)
Last on my list is "Dirty Grandpa," a sequel to the previous "Bad Grandpa." This comedy is sure to keep you laughing as Zac Efron and Robert De Niro journey together at frat parties, during bar fights, and even through karaoke.
