11 Things That College Students Need To Hear At The End Of The Semester

Finals week is just around the corner and all of your assignments are starting to piling up. Professors are pushing tons of papers, quizzes, and exams at you so that they can cover everything before the end of the semester. Everybody can’t wait for Christmas and students are walking around campus like zombies. Don’t sweat it though, you’ve got this!

1. Don't give up! Pushing through will be worth it!

You’re exhausted and probably running on four hours of sleep and you have five tests, three quizzes, and four papers due this week. While you might want to fall over, keep going. Finishing that paper or getting that A will all be worth it in the end. You will be proud that you accomplished everything.

2. Challenge yourself!

Don’t just fake your way through the Philosophy paper that you need to get done. Really take the time to do your best on any assignment. Although it might seem like your class is not that important in the long run, the purpose of taking other classes is to make you a well-rounded individual. Exposing yourself to topics outside of your major allows you to become more aware of the world around you.

3. Have confidence!

You will survive the end of the semester. Although all this work seems stressful, overwhelming, and terrifying, you can do it. You are a stellar student! You've got this!

4. Don't be afraid to ask for help!

Nobody’s perfect. It's okay to not be good at everything. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. After all, helping you is what professors are here to do. Going to office hours, even if it’s just for ten minutes, might turn that C+ into a B+. Or, if you don’t feel comfortable going to office hours, you could ask a friend or classmate.

5. Get enough sleep!

Make sure that you get plenty of sleep. That coffee and adrenaline can’t last forever. Getting plenty of rest helps with memory and concentration. It also prevents you from getting sick. Lack of sleep lowers the strength of the immune system, which is needed to fight off disease and sickness.

6. Eat real food!

Although those fries seem like the perfect studying snack, you need to make sure that you eat right. Take the time to eat a healthy, well-balanced meal and avoid those four cups of coffee. Too much caffeine is not good for you. Take some time to relax!

7. Relax!

Exercising, watching your favorite show on Netflix, and going out with friends allows you to relax and eliminate stress. Too much stress will cause you to burn out, so it's important to find your outlet. Take some time to take a break from studying. While studying is important, it’s not your entire world.

8. Go to class!

I know that it’s tempting, especially at the end of the semester, to skip your 8:30 a.m. class. Trust me, I’ve been there. Going to classes will help you. Now is the time when people are going to start reviewing for finals. Although it can be boring, it will help you.

9. Study parties are the best!

Who is a better option to motivate you than your friends or your classmates? Study parties are a great way to stay motivated and talk through your study guide with other people. So bring some delicious snacks and get to work.

10. Stay Organized!

It’s important to make sure that you are organized. Make a list of all the assignments that you need to get done and stick to it. It will help you keep track of the things that you need to accomplish. Time management is your best friend in college, especially during the final weeks of the semester. Make sure that you balance your schedule accordingly.

11. Enjoy yourself!

Your college years are an incredible experience that you only get to have once. Study, but also enjoy yourself. These four short years are going to fly by!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
